July 29, 200421 yr Found this strange, while I spend most of my time flying in north America I did a flight over the K2 from Hotan China (ZWTN) to Kabul Afghanistan (OAKB). This is when I noticed the anomaly. (no I did not do it in the 172, it's just for the pics so you get an idea what I'm talking about).Notice where the black circles are in the second pic, the runway textures will only load at a certain distance, very close in this case and very annoying. Where as the textures load fine for example at Toronto, Canada (CYYZ) in the first pic.Is this due to the height of Afghanistan (appox 6000ft above seas level)? Does the sim change the way it draws textures at certain heights?Any input is appreciated.XP Home SP1Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 2x512MBGeForce FX 5700 256MB (56.72)SB AudigyMSFF2 & X45 throttleSee you in the fence...CYYZ Al Stiff

July 29, 200421 yr This happens at all airports but the custom textures you're using just make it more apparent. Basically it's just FS reducing the detail level for scenery further away from the camera. Normally you wouldn't even notice it but runways have this nasty habit of being very stright and very long , which makes the effect more apparent.
July 29, 200421 yr I think that what you have here is not an anomoly but a visual "trick", notice that the lengths of the runway are much different so the problem you see on the one with the circles can not be seen in the other photo because that runway is not long enough. As far as the ground textures go I can still see the difference in the textures at about the same distance, the difference is the different textures so it does not stand out as much. I could be wrong but I think that this is the case. I had to look at those pics long and hard to figure this out, you may try to find another runway of the same length at a high altitude to test my theory as well as a place with similar textures. Hope this helps.Best Regards,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
July 29, 200421 yr You could be right Philip. It does this at Denver too and seems to be a problem with concrete runways.XP Home SP1Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 2x512MBGeForce FX 5700 256MB (56.72)SB AudigyMSFF2 & X45 throttleSee you in the fence...CYYZ Al Stiff
July 29, 200421 yr I believe this is trilinear filtering at it's finest. I've seen this in other games aswell i long stretch broken up in three "sections". :)-Mikkel
July 30, 200421 yr Mipmaping and Antialising add to this...turn up your Anisotropic filtering in your Video card driver menu to 4x or better to 8x and this will improve the look of all the terrain textures as well as any others that get viewed at low angles.
