July 29, 200421 yr A few days ago I flew N145DR Single pilot from the UK to Malaga with one fuel stop in Northern Spain at San Sebastian.Never again a thousand miles in that heat. Madrid where giving 45 deg C on the ground.Leaving San Sebastian I climbed IFR to 11000 feet for the cruise having drunk gallons of water at San Sebastian.Passing Madrid my way was blocked by vicious thunderstorms and the air was like a bucking Bronco.Passing between two cells the aircraft on Autopilot went from 160 kts to 70 kts in about five seconds.I punched out the autopilot pitched the nose down and added full power only to see the VSI off the clock and the speed still only 80 kts while being 1500 feet lower.I lost communication with Madrid through electrical crackle and also with Malaga ( thank you Easy jet for relaying my clearances. Finally to add to all this the gallons of water I drunk caused a problem which meant I had to revert to using an empty oil container and embarrassed the owner/passeneger :-}If you want to try the flight in the sim.EGBJ RW 27 DCT PB(portland bill)dct DIN dct NTS dct BMC dct LESOLESO sid to PPN off 04 BBN dct CJN dct VTB dct BLN route towards LEGA for 40 miles then route towards MAR to be picked off by Malaga approach for an ILS intercept on Runway 14.I have dumped the Seneca at Malaga and go down this weekend to fly into Africa ;-)Then another Pilot collects her back to the UK as I am off to Menorca in another aircraft.Have fun.PeterNB check the picture with the interior temp on the DDMPI have added http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85959.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85964.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85967.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85968.jpg
July 29, 200421 yr >Never again a thousand miles in that heat. Madrid where giving>45 deg C on the ground.Peter, no AC in your Seneca ? I know, it is an expensive option - in any aircraft.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
July 29, 200421 yr MichaelFor a UK based aircraft its not worth the couple of weeks a year its used. Normal conditions are freezing to death :-)But I hope the temperatures drop before the return pilot collects her and I still have a short flight into Africa with her this weekend ;-(Oh wellPeter
July 29, 200421 yr It is a bit :-)Africa this weekend, back to Malaga, easy jet back to UK Wed another aircraft UK to Menorca.September I am back into Citations flying out of liverpool UK with a first trip and overnight in Prague. Two Weeks ago in the USA renewing a Citation CE500 550 560 Recurrent.Oh well no peace for the wicked ;-)NB this shot is leaving San Sebastianhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/85991.jpg
July 30, 200421 yr Peter,I can't begin to tell you how impressed with the scenery (not the temperature so much), especially jpg #1. My wife and I and have an apartment about 2 blocks from that exact marina in Benalmadena. Where did you get that scenery from? Someone must have worked so hard on this. Thank YouJohnCalgary
July 30, 200421 yr JohnI am there again this weekend and hopefully the visibility might be better as I am hoping to get some shots of Gibralter while routing into Africa. That Marina looks amazing from the Air. I presume those are private apartments with mooring rights below, but as I am in Malaga saturday till tuesday I am intending to drive down and view that Marina from ground level :-)Peter
July 30, 200421 yr PeterFabulous shots (as usual)!I know that area very well having visited it for many years. The marina (puerto) in Benalmadena Costa is indeed fabulous and I'm sure you'll be as impressed 'on the ground' as you were when viewing it from the air.I have a question though as I'm a little curious about your approach routing...You say you had an ILS approach to runway 14 from the Martin VOR (hence the landing shot of runway 14). Two pictures (the marina and what I think is the Conference Centre in Torremolinos) would indicate that you flew further south than the airport to take these shots. Did ATC have you fly south over the airport before turning you back towards 'Martin' and then south again for the approach? (Or were the pictures taken during a different flight?)RegardsToni.
July 30, 200421 yr John, Forgive me in advance, but scenery ? These are photos of the real thing.Great shots Peter, it's true what another poster says about life being hard. Using an old can.....LOL !More soon please.Ash
July 30, 200421 yr So Sorry....I understood that it was some kind of add on scenery for FS9. And yes, those are private apratments. There is also an excellent restraunt in the photo also...good food and a resonable price.John
July 30, 200421 yr ToniWell spotted! the marina shots were from a sightseeing joint for some of the owners associates taken low level down the coast last Monday. I arrived saturday.I am back there on easy Jet tomorrow (Saturday) to take the plane into Africa I will try my best to get some new shots hopefully with better visibility.Peter
July 30, 200421 yr AshSee above but I am Easyjetting down to Malaga this weekend to take the Seneca into Africa so "hopefully" some good shots of the Rock of Gibralter and beyond.Peter
July 31, 200421 yr Hi Peter,Dont know if you'll read this before departure. But the straights of Gib are quite spectacular, almost surreal as Africa looks as if you could almost reach out and touch it.Look forword to seeing a few pics.Have a good trip !Ash
