SoCal Megascenery.....what if I delete it?

Featured Replies

I like SoCal Megascenery, and of course it improves the look of that region. However, there are times I wish I didn't have it. When leaving the megascenery area, and flying into another area, it seems kind of wierd, but when flying into Southern California from somewhere else, the scenery doesn't work. You have to load it, and fly in it...generally no where else. Of course, it takes forever to load, and sometimes (I don't know why) it's blurry, and sometimes it's not. My question is this....If, and I say that hesitatingly, if I wanted to go back to the default SoCal with my FSGenesis Landclass and USA raods (both of which I have), what do I have to do to get back the original scenery? Not sure I'm going to do it, but I just want to know. Depends upon _how_ you have the SoCal add-on scenery arranged within your FS folder structure. If its in its own Scenery / Texture sub-folders, then there _should_ be a corresponding entry within the Scenery Library reflecting this by its name; e.g., "SoCal Megascenery" or something similar. That being the case, disable it in the Libary by unchecking its box. Restart FS and check results. If everything is the way you want it, then you don't even need to remove it unless you're also concerned about freeing up some space on the hard drive. This way, if you once again change your mind, you merely re-enable again via the Library.

The SoCal scenery will have several entries in your scenery configuration.Click on the "settings" button and then click on "scenery library".Scroll down until you see the "megascenery" items. Uncheck each of them, then click OK and exit and restart FS9.One caveat ... megascenery makes changes to your FS9.cfg file that may or may not be desirable for non-megascenery flying. For myself, I use two different config files and have a batch file to load the proper one depending on if I am flying megascenery or not. Unless you are pretty confident fiddlign with the config files, however, I'd just stick with the megascnery version .. but perhaps using the "display settings" button to reactivate extended textures and to increase the terrain mesh complexity and autogen.

Thanks for the info.Indeed...the SoCal scenery is in the Library and about 7 or 8 areas in Southern Cal. are checked. I unchecked it and flew, and it looked OK. Of course, nothing like the Mega-Stuff. I'll probably turn it back on, and live with the idiosyncrasies of the massive files. Thanks for showing me how to do this. Stan
