December 24, 201213 yr After months of tweaking, testing, multiple re-installs, and a hard drive crash, I've managed to get FSX to run in the low to mid 20's with almost any aircraft (Flight1 Citation Mustang still kills it) in any scenery. This performance is only on a clear day as clouds still bring the box to a crawl. That being said, the laptop is over 2 years old and is being replaced with a Lenovo W530 with the following specs: CPU Intel Core i7-3920XM (2.9GHz, 3.8GHz turbo boost) OS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Video NVIDIA Quadro K2000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory (8 times the number of shader's than my current Quadro FX880) RAM 8 GB DDR3 - 1600MHz (2 DIMM) - Dual Channel Hard Drive 500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm Micro Hard Drive 16GB mSATA Solid State Cache Drive I have a couple of questions: 1. Will this new CPU, being an Extreme CPU, deliver significantly better performance than my current laptop? 2. I've always read that FSX performance is more related to CPU than GPU. Will the new GPU help with performance at all? 3. Will the solid state cache help with performance? 4. Will all these components allow me to finally utilize my REX clouds without bringing my FPS to sub-teen levels? I know laptops don't mix well with FSX so I've always tried to be realistic with my expectations and as such, I'd like to see high teens to low 20's for FPS in a scenario such as Orbx PNW - KSEA and the -NGX at dusk or dawn, overcast with REX clouds.
