In the FeelThere tutorial documentation for the ERJ 145, in the taxi section, they direct the pilot to "Activate the TOGA(Take-off / Go Around) - click within the red area.", the red area referring to a range on the left power lever. I don't quite understand what this instruction means.

 

Are we to advance the left throttle lever to this range by clicking in this area? When I click in here, I do not notice anything happening. What should I expect to see happen if anything, and where? What is the purpose of the red TOGA button on the throttle lever?

 

What does this instruction accomplish in the operation and performance of the aircraft. Is it a critical/mandatory step?
