  1. When do pilots usually enter their flight plans etc into their GPS or FMC units? Before or after engine start?
  2. I like to control my aircraft switches (as I can) with hardware switches (party of a learning process towards home cockpit building). I would like to control this aircraft's No Smoking and Fasten Seatbelts switches, knowing they serve to real purpose in the simother that the visual switch position and chime, with the toggling of a couple switches on my Saitek Throttle Quadrant through FSUIPC. The commands are not in FSX by default, so are not availabvle as FS cointrol selections in FSUIPC. I tried logging the switch activity with FSUIPC but no information was gathered. (Maybe I was using this feature wrong). Has anyone managed to program hardware buttons to switch activity in the Carenado Grand Caravan EX (or other Caravan aircraft perhaps) through FSUIPC? If so, I would happily take anyone's adice on how to do it. EDIT: Notice also an inability to set the fuel selector switches on/off through FSUIPC using the Fuel Selector options in FSUIPC's FSX command list.
  3. Disregard question. Solution was simple. Parking brake was off. I figured they would have included engaging it as part of their cold and dark default condition.
  4. I have the Carenado C208B Grand Caravan EX package installed into FSX. From a cold and dark scenario on the ground, after selecting "Static elements" from the INFO panel (SHIFT-5), the image does not update accordingly. No chocks, no pitot covers. Is anyone able to suggest a possible cause and perhaps a solution?
  5. Thanks Steve for the very detailed explanation. Appreciated by me for sure, and I'm sure others now and in the future will benefit. I found it odd that after installation I am hoping that although the interface seems "normal" now, that it's functionality and end results are to be expected. Perhaps its time to purchase Cloud Shadows to take advantage of Version 5 of the fixer. Where can I purchase this?
  6. *EDIT - Disregard, I uninstalled the libraries, and and after a multitude of errors and a restart of a crashed application, I was able to reinstall the libraries and now everything is functioning normally. The only thing I have found, is that i am missing part of the DX10SF Initial Installation Dialogue. I have the three options for product features, however, I don't have the selection menu for the 5 addons.
  7. I am having uncertain difficulty with my installation of DX10 Fixer 3.4. I have never had an issue before, so I'm a bit freaked out. First, after installation, I had to initiate an Emergency Change of FSX Directory. After install, the libraries were installed and up to date, but there was nothing in the FSX path, nor was the Change button available. When I managed to direct the app to the FSX installation, switching to DX10 resulted in this error "Error Copying File DX10 envmap..(0) System error was 3" during the reenabling DX10 Effects and Reflections process. The process completes, but I fear that this error may manifest unexpected behaviour. Do I need to be concerned, or can I proceed business as usual?
  8. I am wondering if anyone would so graciously assist me in optimizing my FSX installation graphic settings with my new system taking into consideration the use of DX10 Fixer 3.4 and Nvidia inspector. I've followed the DX10 Fixer How To Guide, but am not comfortable with my understanding of it. 9. My apologies if this is an odd question, but I hope someone is able to help me. I'm not very knowledgeable of views , camera angles etc in basic FSX operation. I am struggling to find a decent Twin Otter cockpit panel layout that I can refer to take measurements from and scale as I work towards replicating the cockpit physically. I have been playing around with taking measurements from within FSX's Aersooft Twin Otter Extended aircraft using a software tool called "Meazure". For the most part, I felt OK with this less than accurate method. What I am finding, is that the default views and basic means of looking around the cockpit typically show panels in a somewhat perspective view, so a rectacular panel may show on the screen as trapezoidal. It is difficult to get acurate measurements when the view is askew. Is there a means, that I can set a standard zoom level (.89 seems best) and when choosing to look at a panel, view it staright on? I hope I've explained myself OK. If not, and you think you might know what I'm trying to ask but need more clarification, please ask!
  10. Is there a means in FSX to display the current zoom factor of the display? Control-Z gives me a wealth of information, but not the one piece I need.
  11. I am new to Linda, and using what resources I can find to self teach myself the intricacies of this application. Right now, I am at a point of simply assigning FSX default aircraft commands to my Saitek Yoke and Throttle controls (using the MS FSX Default aircrafts module that came with LINDA). I am trying to find how to assign a PTT button. On press it would be to initiate broadcast, and on release that same button would disconnect. Is anyone able to provide me some direction?
  12. Thank you Andrew. All is good now. It appears I had been using an outdated FSUIPC. So, for clarification of question #2, are you suggesting I get rid of the keyboard and mouse references in the standard.xml file in addition to the joystick references (explicitly advised in the manual)?
  13. I have discovered that LINDA can offer me great flexibility in controls for my aircraft when combined with FSUIPC. I've got all the prerequisites and have been following 'brian747's excellent beginner's manual as I plunge into this new adventure. I have come across a few questions in the initial aspects that I haven't esily found answers to ... 1) General question ... is LINDA meant to run along with FSX? ie when FSX is running so is LINDA (the .exe) 2) Installation preparation question ... in brian747's document it states "the Linda manual also suggests editing the standard .xml file to remove all exisiting assignments". To clarify. this is just joystick assignments ... not keyboard / mouse assignments that precede the hardware assignments in the standard.xml file. They should remain in the file and saved only after edits to the joystick section(s) as illustrated in the Linda manual? 3) Setup question - do I need to be running FSX while I install and configure LINDA? I am receiveing indication from LINDA that their is action required in my Flt Sim / FSUIPC configs. I am being advised that "Flt Sim or FSUIPC not running" and that I should "Check FSUIPC version". I have executed LINDA in both states, with FSX running and FSX not running. I get these messages in both cases. What must I do to overcome this? brian747's manual doesn't appear to mention whether FSX should or shouldn't be running (I'm assuming not) nor how to deal with Flt Sim / FSUIPC config deficiencies. Thank you all in advance!
  14. Thanks Steve ... I will assume the xml file is part of an older NVI and newer versions don't rely onit anymore. I will assume things are working without it!
  15. Hi Steve, yes ... I realize that, but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about Nvidia Inspector and it's file CustomSettingNames_en-EN.xml. The question really doesn't fit into your DX10 Fixer forum or Adam's document (other than making reference to it). I would have posted this question in an Nvidia Inspector forum, but none exist. I thought maybe since Nvidia Inspector is a useful tool for FSX that maybe users of your software may have had experience with it.
  16. I have no idea where to post a question like this ... There is a pretty thorough "How-To" document available that in conjunction with The DX10 Scenery Fixer will allow a user to optimize their DX10 setup in FSX. It recommends following the guide closely. It has been a few years since it's been updated, and some references are may no longer be accurate. In section 3, Setting Up Nvidia Inspector, it is highlighted quite clearly: "Very important: make sure that Inspector.exe and CustomSettingNames_en-EN.xml are both in the same folder - or NVI will not work." I have Inspector.exe, but I cannot find CustomSettingNames_en-EN.xml. Where would I find this file? If found, would I move it to where Inspector.exe is? I'm using the latest release(?) of Inspector, 1.9.7.8. Perhaps it doesn't rely on CustomSettingNames_en-EN.xml any longer?
  17. I am having a peek at my FSX.cfg file and have noticed I have two DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti entries. One is near the top of the file ... [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti.0] Mode=5760x1080x32 Anisotropic=1 AntiAlias=1 and the second at the end of the file ... [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti.0.0] AntiAlias=1 The differences are higlighted. Is this normal and acceptable? Or can I expect problems?
  18. I have been using Steve's DX10 Scenery Fixer since is was released as a paid addon. Such a great investment! But I sometimes wonder if I've got things optimized. I find myself perplexed with understanding how to determine the best DX10 Anti Aliasing setting? It's a pretty open and generic question, but would someone be able to help me determine the best setting? I don't quite understand the selection based on DX9. (I don't know what the setting was in DX9?) I have an Nvidia GeForce 660ti graphics card with driver 388.13. I am using Nvidia Inspector 1.9.7.8. and DX10 Fixer 3.3. Thank you all in advance!
  19. Thank you Mark for the quick and very simple solution!
  20. My Free Flight aircraft selection window, as well as my main flight windows both have a square green box in the top left corner of the display. This happens for all aircraft on all views. Has anyone had experience with this before? Perhaps someone may have an idea where this is coming from and how I can get rid of it.
  21. Hi Rupert .... thank you for your reply. Yes ... I agree, the DX10 How To Guide is a must have and I have been working with it for a few days now. I'm still plugging away, but I'm afraid that I may be ripping myself off by my ignorance on the subject by not doing all I could do. In part, I don't know what to expect, what each setting does for the overall quality (ie if I change something where will I notice a difference), or what problems to watch for based on these settings (ie I hear terms like jaggies, tearing, artifacts, blurries, shimmering etc as being deficiencies adjustable by proper settings, but I don't even know what those are LOL to atch for them LOL) Everytime I did deeper into the meaning of something new, or research a specific setting, I get bogged down in posts and blogs and technical articles that are outdated, irrelevant to my setup ro just plain wrong or I'm unable to find equivalent setting in updated versions of the software I'm using. I'm trying!
  22. Hi Folks, Admittingly, I am overwhelmed with all the reading involved, from so many different sources, and from so many different setups. Combining this with having different applications needing unique settings, and CFG files needing specific tweaks, to be set up someone that is foreign to the terms is a very discomforting feeling for someone who just simply wants to enjoy flying in a beautifully represented environment. I have FSX with Acceleration, with Steve's DX10 Fixer v3.3 and I am looking for help, yeah ... some hand holding maybe ... to get me back into the virtual air after a long absence during a reinstallation. I embarked on my own, but soon found myself all over the internet being challenged with adapting other configurations of different system specs and outdated software to my own. Self educating on knowing how to use, and in what order, Nvidia Inspector, FSX settings and configuration entries, DX10 settings leaves me just walking away after a few minutes. I am very appreciative of people who share their knowledge as for some a question like this is just everyday common knowledge. Akin to taking for granted someone needing to tie their shoes for the first time. But, like tying shoes for the first time, it can be daunting but made easier by someone willing to help. I would be willing to pay a modest fee (discuss privately please) to get me over this challenge. My system specs ... Intel core i7 6700K CPU (4.0 Mhz) Gigabyte z170XP-SLI-CF MB 16GB DDR4 RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660ti GPU with three 23" monitors connected (as one monitor) via Nvidia Surrond to result in a resolution of 5760x1080x32, current driver Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit SP1, fully updated FSX w/ Acceleration Steves DX10 Fixer Active Sky Next REX4 FTX Global Thank you in advance to those respecting my situation and offering support. I have great faith and admiration of those passionate and familiar with how technology and FSX interact.
