December 30, 201213 yr I have been trying to reduce the overall complexity of running FSX that comes with the addition and configuration of many fine addons. However, at the same time, I have recently become interested in Opus given the reviews I have read. So a couple of quick questions for those knowledgeable with the product. For Live camera and Trackir is there a way to rename the simconnect.manifest and the simconnectSP2.manifest files when I start FSX with Opus and have them renamed back when I finish with FSX? I am assuming my other sims that I use Trackir for need the files renamed back to the proper names. I know there is a "server" component that needs to be run every time you run FSX called FSXSERVER but later on in the documentation it talks about running OpusFSX. Are there 2 things that need to be run when you use this or just one? I see there is a way to automatically load the server each time you run FSX but I do not have an "exe.xml" file to alter as stated in the documentation. If I create an "exe.xml" and copy exactly what is in the documentation line for line for the contents of the file will that work? I take it that for every upgrade I currently have to uninstall and reinstall the entire product - correct? Do you need a specific version of FSUIPC4 and Trackir hardware and software? I think this is using the Flight1 wrapper. I have tried to stay away from Flight1 given that it often requires installs in multiple places on the system and dumps stuff to the root of the C drive (one place for licensing, another place for the product and some or none of it in the FSX folder). Is there another way to get Opus or is it Flight1 process only? So once this is all configured what is it that you actually have to do any time you want to run FSX and take a flight. If I just want dynamic weather to appear can I just create a flight and go? Thanks for any answers and input.
December 31, 201213 yr Commercial Member OpusFSX has two components FSXSERVER.EXE and FSXCLIENT.EXE, you just run FSXSERVER.EXE on standalone or network server PCs and FSXCLIENT.EXE on networked client PCs. The getting started guide includes an example of the whole "exe.xml" and it also explains how you can use notepad to create the file, just paste in the text from the guide. Sometimes updates are provided as msi files which require an uninstall, other times thay are provided as ZIP files which don't. I just use the latest version of FSUIPC, don't think it matters which version you have. People have different versions of TIR hardware and software drivers. OpusFSX is sold via Flight1, you must have the licence and key files in the C drive but everything else can be installed elsewhere. You just need to configure the first time you use OpusFSX where your sim is installed and that is pretty much it before you can fly. We recommend various settings for FSX and you will need to set up TIR in accordance with their instructions which are outlined in the getting started guide. If you want to configure cameras to get DHM then you can do that at a later stage. Regards Cheryl
