August 6, 200421 yr i have noticed my landings in the cessna 182, since using less weight in the aircraft thus making it lighter, seem to make for a bouncy landing. when loaded with passengers and cargo making it heavier my landings were silk smooth, no bounce at all. are they to be expected with lighter weights? i've tried alot of different things but i still bounce. maybe i need to increase the weight enough to give a smoother landing? william
August 6, 200421 yr This is true in Real Life as well. If you do a weight and balance/performance check to the pound you will see that the same C182 that will stall at 52kts fully loaded will stall at 49kts with full fuel and pilot only. I'm just throwing numbers out as an example. Also, flying a low wing vs a high wing will make a difference. If you adapt to the high wing and learn to do smooth landings then going to a low wing your first landings will more than likely bounce a few times before settling down.Best thing is to level off above the runway and hold it off until the stall warning horn is heard. If you touch down in a near stall there won't be enough lift to pick you up again to bounce you, most of the time ;)I hope this helps !
