I have been searching an explenation without luck.

Can anyone here in short terms tell me what 'idle gate' is and does?

Hi there,

The Idle Gate is a protection method so you cannot accidentally engage reverse (beta) mode on the power units, especially in flight.

You may have to physically have to lift the lever over the gate, or it may be an automatic system for in flight depending on the aircraft.

Similar essentially to a car manual gear box, you have to usually push down on the lever to engage reverse.

Hope that helps,

And there was me thinking, for all these years, that an "idle gate" was a special area for LAZY Pilots to PARK their aircraft ......

I probably also have "Wheel Hub" totally wrong as well ?
