August 10, 200421 yr I have read the different post and searched the subjects below but need some help. In relation to FS9 a COF I have gotten really confussed on the following two subjects and if and when they should be added:1. The MS Service Pack II. I have no clue. I got my present cpu last Jan and do not know if it will help or not.My specs are, p-4 3.1, 120 hard with a second HD at 40, 1 gig DDR, 1sr V-card is a ATI 9800 pro at 128, 2nd V-card is a ATI 9200 at 128. Three monitors two on the main V-card and one on the second. (to my knowledge the difference between the 17 flat screen and the 21 flat screen dose not matter as they all work great.I dont know if the specs help, but I did not know in relation to the MS service pack II.2. AFCAD Files. Do you only need these per a add on scenery or what?Agian I have read myself into the woods where now I cannot see the trees. If there is a way to explian these in simple terms I would really appreciate it.Thank you for any help.Mark.
August 10, 200421 yr Dont wish to appear rude but English does not appear to be your prime languageIf you mean the M$ XP service pack II then there are other threads but IF your system is working the way you like it then you will have to make a decision as to whether you install or not - I am in no possition to answer that as I have no intention of installing itAFCAD files - it is usually accepted that a lot of add-on scenery needs them - but more detail of your question is needed
August 10, 200421 yr Hi Mark,SP2 is for users of WinXP. It mostly contains security updates. Preliminary reports show no gain or loss of FS performance. AFCAD files provide more and/or more organized parking arrangements for aircraft. Many can be used with default scenery. Some add-on scenery contain them.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 10, 200421 yr Hi Mark, I think that I will step in and give my two cents too. :-) First I highly recommend that you install service pack 2, it is mostly designed to fend off viruses, spyware and other such "evil" problems. From personal experience and what I have heard from others it should not effect FS9 either in a positive or negative way. I run a business that repairs computers for corporations and individual users and I can tell you that from some of the damage that I have seen done over the years that you want to install this to increase your security. Many people try to shun these updates for fear that they may decrease performance but trust me that you never want to leave yourself open to what can happen. This is especially true if you purchase things online, do banking online or keep personal files on your computer. Please, do yourself a favor and install this update at the least it may save you some time and headaches, at most it may save you a lot of money and your credit rating. Anti-virus software does not catch everything all of the time so anything and everything else that can help is usually worthwhile. As for the AFCAD files, usually you will want to find an AFCAD file that is created for any add-on scenery that you add so that the AI traffic will park in the right locations and taxi in the proper places. Also if you have installed any additional AI traffic like Project AI or any of the payware alternatives you may want to get additional AFCAD files to increase the amount of parking spots at each airport so you can see the additional traffic. You do not have to install AFCAD files for every airport just the large ones or the airports that you frequent, it is totally up to you. If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I will try to help you.Best regards,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
August 10, 200421 yr 1) Do you have Windows XP? If not, then you don't need to worry about it. If you do run XP, then see the other thread.2) You should look for an afcad file anytime you download custom scenery. Most add-on sceneries should come with them included (and instructions). However, there are a few that do not. For those sceneries that do not include an afcad file, search the library and see if you can find one. Most aiports have a default afcad file which works ok. You can also download better ones from the library. What these files do is add many parking spaces to the airports (often in the correct positions as well). If you are running a lot of traffic, you might want to get some for the bigger airports you fly. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
August 10, 200421 yr Author So what does AFCAD stand for?Maybe that would help.SP2 stands for: Service Pack 2. Plain and simple. It is the second service pack Microsoft has released for their Windows XP operation system. It packs together alot of patches and fixes for different known issues as security holes and new functions. It is recommended to install them.hope that helps to clear things up,;-) Claudio
