What video card feature is needed for reflective water?

Featured Replies

FS9 uses the DirectX 8 API for it's graphics. You must have a DirectX 8 video card to see the water reflections. On the Display settings page, the "Water Effects" slider must be set on "High".Cheers,Greg

Thanks guys. It's funny - I'm using an old card.. really old, like 6 years - I'm sure it doesn't support DX9, but I've got the latest drivers and it's working fine. Not necessarily running everything FS9 has to offer, but it's working. Although I am running out of video memory relatively quickly. (32)Better than with my DX7 drivers, that's for sure.CheersAndrew

There's more to it than just updating DirectX. Older cards don't support all the functions in the version of DirectX - 8 onwards, I think - that enables these water textures. Thus if you have a GeForce 2, for example, forget it. You can set your sliders, but you'll see them jump back to the left automatically!Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

"Older cards don't support all the functions in the version of DirectX"Right - I'm just saying it's nice to at least be able to keep my card "in the game" while I wait to upgrade!CheersAndrew
