August 13, 200421 yr Sorry, I don't actually know how. In real world flying, rotating beacons are more difficult to spot than they are in this simulator. That's because they can easily blend in with all the other lights, and are not as visible as you'd they would be. Actually, when flying at night, you use your peripheral vision to spot them -- they are easy to miss when you are searching for them while looking directly at the area you expect them to be. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but you actually want to use your peripheral vision to pick up the motion of the beacon as you scan around you.
August 13, 200421 yr You may want to download and try these textures from the File Library here. I think they will give you a boost in the beacon lighting. But even if not, all the airports will look a lot better. If you don't like the effect, just reinstall the default textures and no damage done.DougEdited 'cause I can't spel-----------------------------------------File Description:Airport Environment Upgrade MX . August 14, 200421 yr Thanks for the replys. I have all of Chris Arrington's upgrades installed. Those don't appear to change the airport beacon. I'd hoped someone would know which files to tweak to increase the beacon's intensity. I did see a couple fx_ files in the Effects folder that looked promising.Richard
August 20, 200421 yr For anyone interested, I did find the way to increase the aiprort rotation beacon light intensity. There are two files in the Effects folder called: fx_beacong and fx_beaconwhi; beacong is the green light and beaconwhi is the white light.Open fx_beacong with a double click. X Scale and Y Scale control the intensity of the light. Make these changes under Particle.0 and Particle.1. If you feel the light is too bright, just lower the number value. (I believe the default was 3.20 and 1.50 or somewhere close.)[Particle.0]X Scale=9.20, 9.20Y Scale=9.20, 9.20[Particle.1]X Scale=7.50, 7.50Y Scale=7.50, 7.50Now do the same for fx_beaconwhi.Here is another change you may want to try. For me, the green light was too pale. From a distance it almost looked white. In the fx_beacong file, under ParticleAttributes.0, make this change to the second number.[ParticleAttributes.0]Color Start=0, 240, 50, 255Color End=0, 240, 50, 0The first number is the color Red, second is Green, and last is Blue. What you ar doing is making the green color darker. Again you can adjust to your taste. The max value is 255. ParticleAttributes.1 is already maxed at 255.The beacon looks best at a distance and at altitude, as it should. Please make a backup of those two files before you make any adjustments.Enjoy,RichardPS: Many thanks to Kurt M for pointing me in the right direction.
