January 31, 201313 yr I have a propriatery motherboard made by Asus for HP ( A8m2n-la) with a Athlon 64 X2 5200 2.6 Ghz processor and a Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 video card 4 Gig DDR2 667 Ram running XP SP3 and FSX. The motherboard is upgraded to the latest bios but does not allow ovedrclocking. I tried it with ntune and it does bring the processor up to 2.7 Ghz, but it is not enough to smooth out FSX (it stutters in turns). My framerates are not too bad. Taking off from JFK, I fluctuate from 19-30 FPS. I can't afford to upgrade my MB at the present time, but I can upgrade my processor. The Max my board can take is the X2 6400 @3.2 Ghz. Can I see any benefit from upgrading from 2.6 to 3.2 Ghz? I am also looking at a X2-6000 3.1 Ghz, but it only has 1 Mg cache (2 x 512) but the x2 6400 has 2 Meg cache (2 x 1024) will the cache make that much of a difference in performance?
January 31, 201313 yr Personally I would wait until you have the money to upgrade your MB and CPU, then you can take them both up allowing you to OC and achieve higher Ghz. Cache makes a difference, also the speed of your RAM will have quite a large effect. I feel you won't see that much difference, and would wait to do an upgrade to your MB too. Hope that helps A
