August 20, 200421 yr Hey Folks,I don't post here that often but just thought i would share my joy after purchasing a Geforce FX5500. Before this i was running FS9 on my onboard graphics chipset and was lucky to get frames in the mid teens with eveything set to the minimums. After much tinkering with my new card and over coming some minor problems I have hit the sweet spot for the first time ever in my flight simming history. Although I only have 256megs of RAM, the Geforce FX5500 128Meg has boosted my frames to an average of 35 with most of the sliders to the left!!! I can now really appreciate how good looking this sim is...and those clouds...wow!!!I'll certainly be posting screenies more often now too! I would also like to thank the people on these forums for their advice to others about graphics cards problems as having searched for those topics I was able to correct the problems I was experiencing.Happy Flying,RegardsDan :-jumpy
August 20, 200421 yr Good for you Dan, I have a lowly 5700 Ultra and also have GREAT FPS with most on high. These cards cannot do the AA well but AF is good. I am looking at purchase of one of the fantastic newer Nvidia cards on the market that will allow all sliders to the left with full AA/AF. Now that will be heaven ;-).Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. August 21, 200421 yr I know how you feel.Early this year I got rid of my 128mb chipset integrated graphics and got a new ATI Radeon Pro 256mb as part of my new whizz-bang computer.I booted up FS and my jaw stayed dropped for about a week!Eight months later I'm still amazed at what I can see and do.CheersTim
August 22, 200421 yr Hello Dan,Also others. I went and got a ATI 9800 pro at 128DDR. My system has a gig of memory. My question is that Dan mentioned all the sliders were to the left. I thought they where to be pushed out to the right for the best scenery.I assume I am wrong and welcome any comments. THank you. Mark.
August 22, 200421 yr "My system has a gig of memory. My question is that Dan mentioned all the sliders were to the left. I thought they where to be pushed out to the right for the best scenery."Hi MarkOf course you've got it right. He just made a simple mistake, that's all.David
August 22, 200421 yr Thanks,I amke a bunch of mistakes and was wanting to measure twice before I changed somthing.Mark.
August 22, 200421 yr Hey Fella's,Yeah that was a bit of a mistake on my behalf, Ooops.Still loving my 'new' sim though!!!Happy Flying,RegardsDan :-jumpy
August 22, 200421 yr Don't delay...Ram's Cheap...Get MORE. You'll be way happier. Trust me on this one. Get at least a GIG of RAM. 1024 is two (2) 512 chips. If you can do it, it will have the greatest impact on FS9. Just my opinion. Please chime in here simmers; am I right?
August 23, 200421 yr Thats cool mate! :)I cant wait to get a new computer. I'd love to have more RAM on my 10-year old Sony laptop but Im reluctant to open it up and fiddle around. So until I get that PC with a screaming AMD 64 Athlon or Pentium IV I shall bumble around in FS2000...
