February 2, 201313 yr Just as you can use Art Stab to overcome the overdone torque roll effect, as I mentioned earlier today on a couple of posts showing screens of PM with the tweak applied to the default Baron58, you can also get a better performance on ground roll under x-wind using the very same tab. In the screen bellow see what can be done, and will be active up to 60 KIAS, on the default C172, so that when you have a x-wind component during taxi or takeoff you don't have to fight it as bad.... Notice that contrarily to what was done to soften torque roll, we should use the LOW SPEED SYSTEM in this case because the effect we're dealing with is more problematic while we're still on ground, taxiing or taking off. Play with those heading target deg per sec yaw rate, fraction deflection per degree per sec diff and speed thresholds... until you feel they are good enough... In the example bellow, applied to the default C172, I used 25º/s target yaw rate, and 0.13 fraction deflection, and limited the effects up to 60KIAS, so, beware that when you reach that speed you loose the stability augmentation and since you're probably not yet airborne the aircraft will veer to the wind... The effects of the Art Stab will only be noticeable the moment you start rolling, so, when you release the parking brake there will still be the sudden veer into the wind (a bit fainter than without this tweak) but it is when your speed get's above ~1KIAS that the system becomes effective, up to (in this example) 60 KIAS...
