Dualboot and how to ignore hard drives

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm planning on building a new rig soon. This computer will be used for my family and FSX

The plan is to get two (2) 256 gb SSD and two (2) 1TB Caviar Black HDD

I want windows 7 on both SSD. One SSD will be for family and the other for FSX. Same thing for the 1TB which will just be one for storage of family files and the other for FSX add-ons.

I would like some help on how to set-up the dualboot? Basically how to install the two windows and then when I boot the computer up how to get a message to choose if I want to start the family windows on the family SSD or the FSX windows on the FSX SSD.

And how to set up so that the family windows does not see the 1TB HDD with fsx data on it and the fsx SDD. And the opposite for the FSX windows not to see the familly SDD and 1Tb HDD?

Thank you for your help and advices

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

I use a dual boot configuration, however each OS installation is not aware there is another OS installation in the box. I did this because I would prefer to have two BIOS configurations: for overclocked w/ tight memory timings, the other at default BIOS settings. I assign the 'family' OS disk as the boot disk for the non-overclocked BIOS setting, and assign the FSX OS disk as the boot disk for for the overclocked BIOS setting boot disk. To keep the two visibly isolated from each other use a freeware utility, such as DriveLocker of Hide My Disk. This may not be elegant per se, but I do like the idea of marrying BIOS settings and boot disk, and I've had no troubles w/ this approach since setting this box up 4.5 years ago. I think the BIOS is an AMI BIOS that have overclocking profiles including boot disk per profile.
