Can I get snow on FU3?

Featured Replies

Dear all,

Hence the title, it's been quite cold and I was wondering if you can get snow on Flight Unlimited 1, 2 or 3? I have FSX Deluxe too and it has all weather conditions but I must say that it, to me, isn't as aeronautically realistic as FU3. Graphics, I would say FSX is more realistic (no offence) but in real life, when you board as a pilot you would normally find the engines cut and the cockpit dead wouldn't you. Maybe having the engines started etc. is designed to make life easier....

Anyway, I'd be glad to hear your thoughts!

Kind regards and safe flying,

Why are graphics so important? They've made me crash... or is it just my computer? ^_^

Hi.

Long time no post. You can have falling snow in FU3. It's just a matter of selecting the correct weather settings. You won't see it pile up on the ground though; even the outer terrain has fixed textures, just the same as the photoscenery areas. If you want wintery conditions you'll have to set the weather right and fly the mountainous areas.

Try something like Lake Cushman to Sequim Valley through the mountains. It's as interesting in poor visibility as it is in fine weather, though for different reasons, if you stick as close to the ground as you can while flying up the valleys, over passes and down the other side.

I shouldn't think anyone would be offended by being told FSX is more realistic. There's no contest really, visually, but I still think the flight physics in FU3 are as good as anything produced more recently (consider FS2004 with the rudder that simply doesn't work...). A couple of developers have worked really hard to produce FS2004 aircraft that you can spin or fly in a banked approach instead of crabbing- it seems like it was a breeze for the FU3 team.

Best regards,

D

A long-long while back there was color pallet editing going on; on the ground textures that helped to depict "snow" and "autumn" coloring instead of the green. It wasn't seasonal though, so you'd need to manually set the pallets by the time of year you were flying. You'd have to search our forum here to see how the guru's were doing it.

you all take care,

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies! Sorry for such a late reply, I actually managed to forget that I posted this thread! :)

I see what Dave means about the weather settings, so for example setting it to winter on the season dial and put in a time of 5am, that might get snow...

Where about in the forum might there be something about the pallet editor?

Thanks again and stay safe,
