framerate efficiency: AI Aardvark vs. Project AI planes

Featured Replies

Is there any consensus on which planes are more framerate-friendly? The Project AI (PAI) packages are a lot easier to install, but for some reason I have it in my head that Aardvarks are more efficient.

That seems to be how I have it in my head. Aardvark models as well as FSPainter ones were far superior for framerates and quality with the original PAI models. I know for Aardvark this was due to the extreme number of LODs (and actually probably true for the CDAI stuff). As for PAI's new models? I'd like to see a comparison as they look much better and who knows how they do comparatively in FPS? There used to be a website that set up a generic situation and placed about 20-40 of the same aircraft and then looked at the FPS. That was done for every aircraft and then compared. Using that, though far from totally scientific, it was easy to see that FSPainter and Aardvark were far superior.-Cal

My experience is that replacing the PAI models in my install of UT with AIA and FSP ones has yielded slightly better frames. The AIA and FSP models generally have better textures due to there being better repaints, not sure why that is it just is. The AIA stuff is superb.Hornit

Hi,In terms of FPS, AIA are better, and the repaints tend to be of a higher quality, BUT..........In terms of diversity, Project AI have supplied us with some very nice models, and without these we would have some massive holes in the AI fleets. My own personal AI is a mixture of AIA, a few FSP, ARNZ AI (i like the animated stuff with them) and Project AI.To be honest the difference between them is probably only a couple of FPS.Dan.

Here's a good comparison:http://perso.wanadoo.fr/gotorun/AIframe.htmlPersonally I think the Aardvark and FSPainter stuff is outstanding. Better framerates, better models, better textures. A win-win-win.Todd

PAI models are what I go after when no repaints for AIA and FSP exist for certain airliners. I definately see the framerate hits with 100% traffic running a mix of ultimate traffic and downloaded flight plans (mainly to add all the missing cargo). Airports like JFK and LAX just crawled until I replaced the models

Okay, this having been said. Where is a good place to collect repaints and models for AIA and FSPainter... I searched for American in this library but only got a few results. Are there any sites you guys can reccomend?
