XP Tweaks for FS and Games

Featured Replies

Q1: Yes.Q2: Probably not, although I convinced myself at one time that it did. I can tell you that for me it eliminated lots of stutters and pauses that I found annoying. So now I turn off the frame rate display and enjoy the smoothness. R-

It's not a " magic Bullet" -- many of the tweaks on BV's page may help - or then again they may not - all depends on your particular system.I've tried some in the past when I had a slower PC - I can't really say if it helped or not as the incremental effect of each change is ,in itself, very small. It really is a case of trying the various things and seeing what each one does for you.Provided you follow BV's instructions you can't do any harm and you may ( only may) do some good.Good luckDave

I'd strongly suggest using Ken Salter's FSAutostart. He utilizes many of the suggestions on BV's site in his program. The good thing is that a reboot will undo any changes made.

Yes, I've tried it, but found no major impact on FPS in FS9. In my personal opinion, any kind of OS tweak guides are really not going to have a major impact on FPS or performance of a specific game, but rather just make your entire system a bit faster and more stable. I really like the tweak guide called "Optimize XP" located at:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.htmlIt's kept updated regularly and really does a nice job of going in a logical, step-by-step order. It suggests a lot of cool software you can download (freeware) that I've found to work quite well. Again, don't expect to get an extra 5-10 FPS in FS out of any of this, but it will make your system as a whole run a little better.-Marc
