September 13, 200421 yr I have a 6800 GT video card that is not recognized in the display config file. I want to add it there similar to the way this guy did with his ATI card below:;---------------------------------------------------------------------; ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 2k/XP;---------------------------------------------------------------------<00001002:00004E48:ati2dvag.dll>Disable=1<00001002:00004E48:ati2dvag.dll.1>MinDriverRev=6.14.0001.6307Disable=2What do I have to change to make it work with my 6800 GT on 61.77 drivers?? Also I heard that you should disable the display.cfg file as 2004 doesnt really use it anyway...is this true?
September 13, 200421 yr Frm what I remember, this only matters when you install FS the first time, when the software needs to find a card match or a close approximation. I wouldn't bother with it. As long as the card is recognised and you have 3d acceleration in the game itself, that's all you need.Allcott
September 13, 200421 yr Make a copy of fs9.cfg in a safe location, outside of any fs folder. Rename that file.Delete fs9.cfg. Startup FS9 and it will build a new FS9.cfg with the correct display section. Shut it down. Move that FS9.cfg to the folder where you stored the original under another name. Open up the latest in notepad or wordpad. Highlight the display section, copy, then close that file. Open up the old version you renamed, highlight the display section, and paste in what you copied from the new version. Save it and make a copy to your user area where fs9.cfg was originally stored and rename it fs9.cfg.Open it again and you may wish to check under display ther RenderToTexture setting and set it to zero. Close it and fire-up FS9 to test. This way all your other settings are retained. When I upgraded from a Ti4200 to a 6800GT, FS9 would not start until I did this.I think display.cfg updated after I did this, but as the other poster stated is it used for installation only perhaps being user partially in creating your new fs9.cfg in the steps above.
September 13, 200421 yr The only other thing worth mentioning is that deleting FS9.cfg may also cause lots of other personal settings to be lost, not just the display one's.You can get round the problem by ONLY deleting those lines in the FS9.cfg that refer to the video card, like these below:(DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600.0) - square bracketMode=1024x768x32TriLinear=1MipBias=5I use this method everytime I replace video drivers and only have to reset resolution and bilinear/trilinear selection, all other settings being retained. This ensures that the new driver is recognised by the sim and I would suggest you try this technique first to perhaps save you loads of legwork!Allcott
