Multiple BGL files

Featured Replies

Fellow simmers,I have multiple Traffic.bgl files in my FS9. My question is this. How does FS9 allocate priority in resources to show AI traffic in any given airport? Does FS9 pick a particular .bgl and show all traffic (according to the %) in that .bgl first then moving onto the next .bgl? Or does the FS9 engine somehow allocate the same priority to all available .bgls. Thanks for your input.

I am not sure, but I think the only "priority" in AI bgl's is controlled by the traffic % in the files themselves, I would be inclinded to say that FS reads ANY traffic file in the directory, and just displays the traffic for all of them, rather than proritising.I have all my traffic in seperate BGL's, and there a many files, I like doing it this way as its easy to disable/remove certain airlines, and certainly makes life easier when it comes to adding the latest flightplans. The only thing I have heard about having seperate BGL's, is that FS2004 does not try and avoid traffic from seperate BGL's.i.e. if you have a BA traffic BGL and a AA BGL, and the 2 planes were on a taxiway, they would not "see" each other and as such would not avoid each other. As I said this is only something I have heard, so I am not sure if its true or not.Dan.

The flight simulator reads most everything into RAM except for Scenery. Scenery is cashed into RAM as one flies. If you have two traffic*.bgl files, they are read for aircraft within your geographic area in a radius of approximately 90nm. As you fly, the system constantly reads the traffic files for aircraft that leave/enter the circle. If you have a flight map, such as NAV3.1, you can see the circle of aircraft as you fly along. Every once in awhile, a new aircraft will pop-up out of nowhere!W. Sieffert

I have seperate AI airline files and Ground Control keeps them seperated (well sorta). I have a similar question along those lines. What sequence does FS9 use in reading the bgl's into memory. Is it alphabetical or somehow operating system index or what? The reason is on some airports there is not enough parking spaces so all airlines don't get loaded even though they are within the % I want to use. For example at ORD AAL takes most of the parking spaces and by the time I get to UAL there's no place to park them.Any ideas ... Rich
