[RESOLVED] Delete key behavior

Issue:

When creating a forum message, the "Delete" key starts acting a little too big for it's britches.  When the cursor is at the bottom of a post, with nothing but whitespace ahead of it, using the delete key may not delete any space after the cursor, but instead might delete the entire line/paragraph preceding the cursor.

When at the end of a paragraph, the delete key may delete much or all of the preceding paragraph, or all of the following paragraph. When at the beginning of a new line, the delete key may delete the entire paragraph following the cursor, or perhaps the paragraph preceding the cursor. When used in the middle of a paragraph, the delete key seems to work as expected.

This issue is seen not only here at AVSIM, but also on another flightsim site using this same bulletin board software - it cropped up over the past couple of weeks, seemingly after a system update. I've only witnessed this issue on sites using this most recent version of the software.

It's ruined a few posts for me, as I use delete to clean up accidental whitespace and it ends up blowing out paragraphs of thoughts, and ctrl-z undo only goes so far.

Any thoughts?

-Greg

(Pressing DEL after typing my name above just deleted everything back to the "A" in "Any thoughts?" with one keystroke, and a ctrl-z undo only brought back "Any thoughts?" and didn't bring my name back. Strange strange strange...)

You are correct. And this does result from the upgrades to v.3.4.3 of this system. If you attempt to delete white space, it will take out more than you had wanted. Bring back your content by hitting the REVERT button in the editor. To delete white space between paragraphs without causing that to happen, but your cursor on the spot just before the first word in the second paragraph and then use the delete key. The issue seems to only appear in white space and not between text or sentences.

Thanks for the rapid response. Hopefully the forum publisher can get that squared up in time.  I'll use the undo button in the editor rather than CTRL-Z to bring back the lost work in the future.

Thanks,

-Greg

Depending on how much white space you deleted, you may have to hit the undo button more than once.

Follow up. Here is IPS response to our request for a fix to this issue:

That's something we're aware of and addressing, yes, and have pushed a fix to our own forums for testing.

Board 3.4.4 will contain the fix, I'm sure, if isn't released as a stand-alone patch (which, given the annoyance factor of this bug, may happen).

So, they are aware of it and will be fixing it  / are fixing it. Patience is a virtue...
