September 19, 200421 yr If one of the AVSIM staff that is Denver could ask MS a question this weekend regarding the patch...Is this going to require a virgin installation of FS? Most of us have a literal plethera of add-ons, ...USA Roads, FScene, FS Genesis, Chris Arrington's textures, to name a few... Are we going to lose all that when the executable runs???BobL
September 19, 200421 yr I seriously doubt it. I think it is only gonna add some scenery bgls, a new autogen.xml, new fs9.cfg and maybe a few dll files. At least, that is what I would imagine it would be composed of. I am 100% sure that MS will make it easy to install on top of a non-virgin instal of FS. They know it takes weeks, months to get all our addons working right, and that we would rather not download it than download it and subsequently have to redownload gigs of addons!!!
September 19, 200421 yr In theory it should not affect add-ons as long as they didn't replace any of the default FS files, just addded their own. I know there are add-ons that have replaced the generic.bgl file (bad) and even DLL files (very bad, not to mention probably illegal). In these cases the patch may fail and you'll need to get your CDs out. Also, FSUIPC will have to be upgraded since the EXE has likely changed. (Although I bet Pete Dowson has a new version ready to go.)
September 19, 200421 yr That's one of the first questions I asked. The answerr is no, a clean install in not required, and it does not appear to affect any add-ons that the BETA team could find.

September 20, 200421 yr Author We had a special session with the Microsoft team this afternoon in Denver. I again asked that question, during your test MS, did you encountered any problems with 3rd party scenery with the new patch. Tom Allensworth was sitting next to me and said how many times are we going to ask them the same thing (grin). The MS team went into some good detail about this, they said there were no conflicts to date, and that in fact, the patch should improve all 3rd party scenery and mesh. THAT IS GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!.The only issues that the MS team could imagine at this date is any 3rd party software that repairs bridges, lakes, rivers or coastlines could conflict with the patch.Hope this helps you guys with some additional info, we should see MS relase it in a couple of weeks they said.CheersBob
