MaxiVista for Surround Visuals / Effect FPS?

Featured Replies

MaxiVista appears to be an interesting solution for surround visuals. If the 2nd and 3rd computers have good CPU's and GPU's, will frame rates equal those of main unit? Since the visuals are not going through the GPU of main unit, but through a network, onto a 2nd unit, I would guess the slave computer would require a good cpu/gpu to render complex scenery such as Orbx. Does adding more computers on the network to facilitate greater viewable area have an impact on FPS? My guess it puts a greater load on the CPU as the viewable area increases.

Also: Since it works by undocking views, does that effect the alignment if using TIR etc?

Anyone using  MaxiVista,  how do you find it?

Thank you for any responses.

Hi Drumsonly,

I tried Maxivista a long time ago,  it works reasonably well when using windows etc.  However, when runing a program like FSX, not so good.

The problem is; Everything, is 'generated' on the main computer, where FSX is installed, and that taxes the main CPU.

A new, second view is created, ( on the main computer ) this image is then sent via a network connection to second computer, which only has to display, the received info.   A very fast connection is a must,  as the view information, ie. flying/movement, is being updated constantly, ( by the main Computer ) and then, sent over the network to the second computer.    I had some problems with stutters on second screen,  this I put down to slow ethernet card.    I then gave up, and just used it for windows stuff.      But you can understand why it does not work so well as it seems, when running a flight sim.  and yes it drops frame rates a lot.

Just having gauges or such, on second computer is not so bad, but a new separate outside view, is much the same hit as running 2 monitors, or worse as it now has to go through a network..

having said that, it was a long time ago, hardware is a lot faster now.

I think the best option is 'WideView',  if using multiple computers.  FSX is installed on all computers along with WideView, and uses a server/client  system,  similar in a way to a LAN party or flying/gaming  on line.

This works well, as each computer is running FSX and creating one view, (or two )  then, they all get syncronised by wideview.

Hope this helps,

Ron.D.
