Fantastic! Using 3gb MSI GTX 580 card with a HDMI cable. Custom resolution of 3840 x 2160. Turned down autogen a bit and have a bit of tweaking to do as the image is so sharp. Frames are the same as when I was running the 24" monitor at 1920 x 1200. The deal in the 970 fell through so staying with the 580 for now. The HDMI cable with the 580 does not allow 60hz so I am running at 30 hz. Not a deal breaker. Apparently a DVI to HDMI 2 dongle will be available later this year so those without 970 / 980 will be able to take advantage of HDMI 2.0. The LG 49" 4k does HDMI 2.0. I sit exactly an arms length to the monitor, no pixels seen, very crisp. My only regret is I did not do this sooner. The 50" is very nice but I a 60" or bigger would be a tad more immersive. Unfortunately the $$$ is an issue, but never imagined getting 50 inches of glory for under a grand. Surprised my trusty 580 can push the graphics around as I fly Orbx with helicopters nap of the earth. I do not fly into large airports. My next upgrade will be P3D. If SLI is made to work with FSX, that would be real progress. I give 4k a 5 out 5 since the real estate went from a humble 24" to a 50" almost life size situation is an entirely new experience. A shout out of thanks to Rob for inspiring me to do this!

I am running a i7 2600k at present. I figure a GTX 970 with a 4k LED will be a substantial upgrade visually. Using a 2 x GTX 508's with a 24" Samsung monitor. Plan to switch to P3d from FSX later this year. P3d, 4k LED and hopefully have smooth frames. Not flying over big cities, more back country helicopter flying. Got excited after Rob's post using a 4k LED, as a large unit with TIR will be a lot more immersive than a 24" LCD unit. My desk can hold a 40" TV easily. A 50" will be a bit tight, so got to decide what size. Hopefully my rig can run 4K with a GTX 970. I think the new drivers from Nvidia with the GTX 970 must be making a big difference. Be interesting to see how it works out as this is a really big improvement visually. Thanks.

Can one get the same immersion with Rex or some kind of cloud / fog add on for FSX? I dislike the fog effect in FSX, a real buzz kill.

Best helicopter flight model
drumsonly2002 replied to jose88's topic in Rotary Winged & Helicopter Flying
My two cents worth. I fly the Dodo 206 a lot, plus some other payware helo's. The biggest change in immersion / flight model realism was the using of more realistic controls. Using a Flight Link G Stick 3 Plus floor mounted unit, Flight Link 206 collective, Digital Reality Anti Torque pedals helps with immersion. That being said, regardless of controls, the biggest impact is not so much the controls, but how they are set up. Stock windows joystick settings are ok, but for a far better expierence in that department, FSUIPC can attain a far better control feeling, thus realism / immersion of the aircraft. Setting it up with FSUIP one can have set up the controls specific to the helicopter one chooses to fly. For example the stock Bell 206 is more twitchy than the Dodo 206. Thus the linear curve using FSUIPC adjusted for said helicopter. Regardless of the control, be it a Saitek, CH products or other, the control can be tuned precisely to the aircraft. An aircraft can be made to feel sluggish or twitchy. Setting up the controls for the aircraft will have a great impact to the feel of the flight model. Conclusion. You can have a great flight model out of the box, but if the controls are not set up properly, the flight model is moot. I also enjoy flying the stock Bell 206, and, despite it not being a 10/10 in the flight model department, it is a hoot flying when the controls are set up for that model. I watched a documentary about the Huey. The pilot stated the range of motion of the cyclic is within the circumference of a quarter. Setting up one's controls like that, flying using your thumb and finger. I have no springs in my cyclic, not self centered. When i was using Saitek Combat pedals, i removed the centering spring. We all know Helicopters are the hardest bird to fly. With enough time and practice, setting up the controls properly, the differences between flight models lessen. The reason being is having the controls geared to the machine. Something that is twitchy can be tamed, and something that is sluggish made perky. Finding the sweet spot is the trip. With that being said, every helo flies differently, but they all share a commonality. I consider focusing on setting controls as per machine regardless of flight models and find they all have their own fun factor and personalities. Great question by the way! -
My absolute best graphic's tweak ever ---

I tried this last night but for some reason I the screen became very dark. Maybe I should have Googled how to do it properly. -

I second the explanation of the complex fix in the form of a video tutorial, as I am also visual learner. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Thus a video tutorial with a voice over is worth a thousand posts. My profound wisdom was attained by watching ytube videos and cooking shows.
