  1. The night lighting for me is a moot point. Asus has a great 27" 3d monitor (VG278H), and Nvidia offering version 2 shutter glasses. Decided on a 27" 3d monitor. 3 x 27" 3d would be the ticket but my $ $hip must arrive.
  2. Ramping up for for Nvidia surround. Thinking, a. 3 x 27" monitors no 3d, or B. 3 x 22" monitors 3d. Is 3d FSX a bag of chips and dip or should I go for bigger monitors non 3d? My computer is for FSX only, (possably Xplane 10 also). Flying a mostly bush PMW Orbx. Bush planes and helo's. anyone here into 3d and is it worth all the $? Thanks for any replies.
  3. No pictures yet. But I must say, in appreciation of one great, fantastic guy, Spirit Flyer. He has influence in my enjoying FSX to the greatest extent bar none. I say hats off to Spirit Flyer for the massive energy, time, and love he has shared with this community, and others, sharing his knowledge, passion, obsession and kind help. Every time I turn on FSX, I think of his personal influence in getting my rig running top notch. Sometimes a guy deserves a pat on the back. Being a Canadian, the beaver, the Canadian national animal, a happy tail slapping varmint, can speak words without uttering one syllable. I give Stephen a 11 out of 10 Tail Slaps in his wonderful sharing on this forum. I say: Thank you to Stephen, and the pics of my rig will be posted when it is finished.
  4. Running Win XP, turned off page file. Apparently it fills the blocks in the SSD thus turning off page file is good. Turned it off and everything appears normal. Am I on the right track? Thank you.
  5. Being a member of a forum is like sitting in a tavern. Everything seems OK until you speak. When you do, everyone chimes in wanting to share in the conversation. I work in taverns repairing bar glasswashers. When fixing them, everyone but me knows how to fix it. The guys who drink the most beer have the most expertise. I myself get better at fixing the units if I drink beer also. I become one with the experts. Aside from the electrical shocks I get, mostly after having several beers, for some reason the equipment has left over parts. Ok, my illustration doesn't fit, being a member of a forum is not like sitting in a tavern. For one thing, everyone is sober, and those who post really know what is going on. I'll start over. Being a member of a forum is like watching a show. The movie is as good as the script and actors. The moderatior is like the director, the actors perform free style. Different actors, different posts. Some are like an English gentleman, polite and well spoken, like Spritflyer, and then we get "The Cowboy" and the misbehaved "Redneck". All mean well, for the most part, but it is how one is percieved. For example, one might say, "your video card is 5 years old, and may be a bit out dated". The Cowboy has a more direct way of expressing himself... "your video card STINKS." The Redneck would say, " What's a video card, and what do I spray mine down with so it doesn't stink?" Spritflyer would post benchmarks proving it stinks, without offending anyone. The only ones harmed is the Redneck for washing his card in bleach and the original poster who's offended about having the card critized by the Cowboy. Rightly so, but should feel better after reading Spritflyers posts with benchmarks and honest proof. By that time the entire community has jumped onto the topic, and the original poster gets miffed with information overload. With out beer or meds, he is driven into a frenzy, kicks the cat, yells at his wife and disapointed with his computer, and dislikes the forum. Having a bad experience, may be a bit shy in posting. How do I know this? Where do I attain such profound wisdom? Why do you marvel in my brilliant analysis of the situation, and find it astounding as to how I can grab a topic and amaze you, but fail at simple spelling, yet construct such a long sentence breaking all the rules of grammer and ..... still appear a genius? Beats me, I guess I was born with above average intellengence. <--- note the spelling error. Hmmm... could it be I too .. a victim of the feared "Cowboy" flames. A reciever of the nasty end of his keyboard? A innoceint poster, only to get run over by a truckload of words? To be ambushed by the Cowboy and his posse of fearless faithfull followers? To be strung up in the public square while the mob cries out "Hang him! Hang that varmit high! " Sigh... yes I too have been a victim of the Cowboy. A solid 148lb 5 foot 4 inches of pure ham fisted, keyboard pounding no nonsence pimplefaced brute, wearing stinky clothes, chomping on pizza pockets, having these words humming in the back of his thick skull ... "Go ahead punk, make my day". Dispite that, I endured the public lynchings, the humilation, and having to re write my posts in response due to bad grammer and spelling! Yes.. I .. have ..errr ... hmmm.... ahhh.. kept posting! Yes, kept typing and ranting dispite the dreaded Cowboy types, typing (no pun intended) my way to cyber victory in the war of words. I fought the Cowbow and won! Whew! My finger is getting sore typing all this. I'll have carpel finger by the time I make my point. So, in brief, my thought, when one types a response in a forum, without face to face contact, without listening to voice inflections, a post may appear agressive or maybe rude, but some time, one struggles with the correct response, and does not come off the way it is intended. So hopefully no one is offended by my post. Please note, no cowboys were harmed in the making of this post.
  6. Good post. I finally decided, due to circumstance not to get a 55" 3D HDTV. I feel a bit better not making that decision. The latest and greatest HDTV will be out soon, interesting to see if there is any improvement in that department.
  7. Been putting a lot of thought into this, the pro's and con's. This thought dawned on me today. The toughie is explaining and sneaking the big TV's into my small office / flight sim area. I just realized she would freak out if I walked into the house with 3 x 47" TV, since my desk is a small corner model, and our living room TV is only 27" which she thinks is a big unit as it replaced a 25" unit. Thus, I must compromise. I figured, the 55" unit as a monitor may cause a bit of a debate with the wife, since the 55" unit being almost 2 x bigger than our humble TV. As nice as it would be ... I guess at the end of the day, to keep peace and TV harmony flowing in the household.. 3 x 24" units would be easy to sneak past the wife... woops, I mean 3 x 24" very easy to explain. Use one for spread sheets, at the same time, another for invoicing, and the 3rd, web, e mails, etc. Have the side units on those retractable swing out arms so I can tuck the side units when not using them. A very good business decision to increase productivity. More monitors = faster paperwork = more money! A great business decision. I had a really nice 3d 55" unit picked out with high refresh rate to boot. Too hard to explain how practical it is for my office computer. I guess the moral of the story is to consider the wife in the decision part of buying gear for the flight sim. I find computer upgrades easy to accomplish. Stuff like motion platforms, large TV's, cockpits in the small office area hard to sneak ... errr... I mean explain. That's why I do not have a motion platform at present. I do not fly combat sims any more thus no need for the height of a monitor, thus width more important. Standing in front of a 55" 3d LED TV in the store, and visualizing FSX and a Turbine Duke buzzing a tree line made me forget the " How can I explain this purchase" aspect, (as it dawned upon me today), when the house needs flooring and the HRV system isn't installed yet after 15 years ... sigh. Time goes by fast and have a few pals kick off due to cancer and thought I better get my FSX "fix" before it is my turn to lawn dart in the game of life. But, one must be practical. I think the 3 x 24" units will be great, plus 24" monitors are cheap. I'll keep you posted as how this adventure pans out. With the extra money made from my increase of work, aided by the extra 2 monitors, I can buy my wife some flowers and a box of KFC for supper! Thanks for the ideas and pointing me in the right direction.
  8. Decided later this year, fixing my FSX visuals either 3x (?") monitors or one big daddy 3d unit. So far, bought a 15" secondary monitor for 2d panels IE: GPS, and enjoy having GPS etc on it's own display. It appears the 2 side monitors do add a greater sense of motion vs one unit as per YTube research. Prices of the large LCD / LED / Plasma keep decreasing thus an ideal set up would be 3 x units pending room and $$$. Three years ago 24" monitors were considered big. Now it appears 30-50+ inch units are becoming more popular. Hmmm... 3 x 24" monitor approx <----- 60 inches viewable -----> That being said, the 32" --- 50"+ have a nice height. Not to mention using track IR = another option. Be nice to find 3 X 32" LED 1920 x 1080 with very narrow bezel's and 3d to boot. That would give approx NINETY <------- 90 ------> INCHES of FSX splendor, with air sickness bag included! Lots to think about, interested in your set up's, appreciate the posts and ideas.
  9. A compromise would be 3 x 32" Hi Def TV's. But hard to find a 3d TV that small, affordable priced, and desk to put it on. The 3 x 23" 3D monitors expensive. For the same money, a 3D 47" hi def.
  10. Was looking at a nice Samsung 55" 3D TV. Thinking, with Track Ir, 3d FSX, sitting 2-3 feet away from that bad boy should be immersive. The other thought it may be a bit much (bright) on the eyes. The refresh is approx 250hz. Either that or 3 x 24" monitors, or 3 x 32" TV's. The goal is immersion, and I read the 3d aspects of flying FSX is the cat's meow. All replies very welcome. What do you find adds immersion? Thanks for any replies.
  11. Getting this when available for FSX http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-z-drive-r3-p84-pci-express-ssd.html Got this for the boot drive OCZ Vertex 2 Extended Sandforce 60GB 2.5IN SATA2 Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD. Got all the parts to build new computer, K 2600, Asus P8P67 MB, Coolermaster HAF 922, Enermax 1020W PS, GTX 580, etc etc. Got a 256MB SSD Samsung drive until the Z Drive R3 becomes available. Been a little low on energy, so the build is all talk no action. After work, look at the stuff in the boxes, get something to eat then go to bed or go online and fly, then go to bed. FSX is a fantastic hobby, so I save, buy what I can, save more, and spend it. FSX will keep me broke, but having fun in the mean time. The PCI SSD seems the way to go. Expensive, yes, but in reality, less than $2.00 per day to own over a 2 year period. My posts were deleted also, but the hardware party is here and my main interest is hardware, so I will plant my tent here.
  12. Hey Alainneedle, Great to see you! Was wondering how you made out with the Z Drive. The days of hardware tech talk being dismissed at such and such brought me over here. Saving to get a Z drive myself. Any tips to install it? Glad to find a place to talk hardware for FSX.
