ILS Approach

Featured Replies

I was flying an ILS Approach to Cancun on FS2K2 last night and was told to expect vectors for the ILS Rnway 12 approach. However, my needles never come 'alive' when intercepting the localizer. Is there something I have to do to assure that my glideslope and vector needle are operating.

Had you set the NAV/GPS switch to the NAV position? If it is set to GPS to allow the autopilot to track the flightplan, then the ILS needles won't work. R-

Hi, this depends on the way you are navigating - if you flew with GPSS (GPS steering, meaning the GPS provided lateral control), did you switch your navigation source from GPS to NAV before attempting the approach? I assume you have had the correct frequency dialed in?Edit: :-) If I typed faster in English, I would have seen Rons answer!

A) Do I have to type the frequency in? I thought it would be automatic.:( If I must enter the frequency, where do I find the frequency?I think I had it on GPS... So I have to switch it to the NAV...

Yes you need to enter the ILS frequency manually.Click on the airport in Map view and scroll down for the ILS frequencies.Must be switched to Nav.

I've never seen that view... How do I access it? The only map I know to view is the one that pops up as the GPS view...

"How do I access it?"Go to the World menu and click on map. You might have to zoom in, then click on your airport. Scroll down to find the ILS frequency you need. When planning a flight, you can access this from the planning map as well. I write 'em all down, that way I don't have to pause my flight during descent/approach.

You could fly like real pilots and use charts, they're free and always current here https://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/index.cfm#term2If you're really interested in learning to fly IFR than you should read these 2 free booksU.S. AIR FORCE INSTRUMENT FLIGHT PROCEDURES MANUAL,free download herehttp://www.e-publishing.af.mil/afpubs.aspEnter INSTRUMENT FLIGHT PROCEDURES in the "LONG TITLE" search box and save both of the files below.AFMAN11-217V1AFMAN11-217V2http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/92626.gif
