October 2, 200421 yr Hi.I wondered if someone could tell me please if there is any difference in performance / FPS with this setting in the scenery section of FS9,EG, go to scenery library / select a scenery such as UK2000 part6 / click on edit, then there are two rounds, one has ''cache this scenery'' the other below says ''use this scenery directly'', this is the one that I have a dot in right now, but I wondered what it would do if I changed it to cache this scenery !and could I do it for parts 1 to 6.thanks for any help.Steve
October 2, 200421 yr I tired this with some of the add-on scenery that I have and the only thing I noticed was double the loading time to get into FS. Interestingly I thought (mistakenly) that this would pre-load the complete area but by SLEWING around the textures needed to reload in game for the same cached areas.Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. October 2, 200421 yr Hi Steve,The "cache this scenery" is for folks who don't do a full install of FS to the hard drive. It cache's the required scenery from the CD to system memory as required. If you did a full install "use this scenery directly" is the better choice.Cheers,Greg
October 2, 200421 yr Actually it caches the scenery from the CD to the harddrive (correct me if I'm wrong ;) ). So, unless you're running your sceneries off CD's, this option has no effect. -
October 2, 200421 yr There was an interesting post in the UK2000 forums about this - might be an idea to go look at that. I don't see any difference excpet the double loading times, but as part of a package that includes moving the addon scenery to a different hard drive? Who knows? Can't do any harm to experiment, ymmv and all that.Allcott
October 2, 200421 yr thanks Guy's, and Hi Greg.I think I'll leave it be then, I remembered playing with something like this in FS2000 and then FS just wouldn't start at all, so I'm not going to bugger about with it, I was more curious than anything. and yes, I always do a full install, best way reallySteve.
October 2, 200421 yr "Actually it caches the scenery from the CD to the harddrive (correct me if I'm wrong ). "Sorry, you're correct. I tried this setting in FS2002 once... I got to hear the hard drive whirring and pounding away during the cacheing. It was a painfully slow experience. :-) Cheers,Greg
