FSX SOUND QUESTION / ISSUES

Recommended Posts

Greetings to the forum.  I am currently struggling with some issues that is causing my new MJC Dash 8 Q300 to CTD.  I'm working with Oleksiy at Majestic and he has been excellent but we still have not resolved the issue.  The consensus is that it is my sound card that is causing the problem. It is a new Asus Xonar Phoebus with the latest drivers.  All my other FSX add on aircraft are working perfectly. Microsoft state that a sound card is required in their "Minimum Requirements" list.  Here's what's happening with the Q300.   ( I am running W7 x 64 bit )

Sound card installed and enabled, FSX loads but when loading the Q300 causes a CTD every time.

Disable sound card in Device Manager or physically remove card, FSX will not load.

Sound card removed, enable Windows HD Audio in BIOS and Device Manager, FSX will not load.

The question is, why wont FSX detect Windows HD Audio as a sound device that appears in Device Manager ?  I query this because prior to buying the new Phoebus, I used FSX with no sound card installed and only used my MOBO on board REALTEK sound. Unfortunately, I have since deleted the REALTEK drivers.

It seems that FSX will not recognize W7 HD Audio as a sound device, am I correct in this assumption ?

Advice welcome.

Thanks,  Buster.

Advice welcome.

You need to run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html and copy and paste the details of the crash here.

It's my understanding that FsX runs better with an external sound card versus a built in internal sound chip.  I have seen many running fsx with a HD internal sound chip though.  These sound cards and drivers take up memory so it could be just the added memory requirements to cause your system to crash.  FSX was developed when internal sound chips were new or non-existent and everyone used an external card like sound blaster.  About all the advice I can provide for now.

Best regards,

Jim
