Fresh Install Comparisons

I am in the middle of a complete reinstall from scratch and I own quite a few addons. I will do a couple before and after tests with NO ADDONS 1st and report back my observations. Then I will update addons and let you know.Carmine http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/Images/wave.gif

Ok, well it's nothing earth shattering but after a brand new install with No Addons I used the default 172 with All Options Maxed @ 1024 X 768 X 32 No Antialiasing. All the rest of sliders on other Display Menus Maxed incuding ATC but No Ground Shadows either. KJFK Runway 13L - Daytime - Today's Date - Fair Weather - Default C172. FPS Inside in VC was Between 17 - 25 FPS thats looking around and taking off and going up and over the airport and back down and 18 - 26 FPS Looking Around Outside The aircraft. After the patch, SAME SETUP and location 18 27 FPS in VC and 20 - 30 FPS Outside view. There are NO dramatic changes however, the texture loading is DEFINITELY faster and even though FPS are about the same it is NOTICABLY SMOOTHER which is what matters. All the rest of my system is irrelevant because it was tested on the same machine with same settings but I do have a P4 3.0 / 1GB Dual Channel DDR / ATI 9800 Pro. Windows XP SP2 and background task of basically creative sound panel logitech mouse driver printer status avast antivirus. So, in essence I would recommend to install but I would think installing fresh like I did would be the best route.Off to install :-( : Ultimate Traffic, USA Roads, CS 727, F16, PMDG 76x, etc...Carmine http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/Images/wave.gif

Hi, " even though FPS are about the same it is NOTICABLY SMOOTHER which is what matters. "The fps can't be the same with the update 9.1, there was the fps degradation from the autogen before.Depend's where you made test, because there is at some place the fps are doubled in the final approach compare to default 9.0 and there is 5 fps more at some airports on the ground at departure compare to default 9.0 fs2004ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

Agreed Chris but I went right away to a highly congested airport and got good results which means of course there is even better results for non-congested areas and even higher frame rates. This is ALL GOOD NEWS but like I said, the FRAME RATE is NOT the issue, but the SMOOTHNESS difference at near or similar rates. Faster texture loading of course resulting most likely from the memory leak and autogen issue.Carmine http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/Images/wave.gif

WOW NICE difference STILL AFTER Following Additions So Far:FSUIPCWideServerUSARoadsJustFlight FSTerrain (Europe & Alaska Only)FSGenesis LandclassFSGenesis 38 US TerrainFSGenesis 10 Hawaii TerrainFSGenesis 76 Canada TerrainFSGenesis 76 Mexico TerrainI went to Hawaii and it is REALLY nice now and DEFINITE frame rate increase ALONG with increased smoothness.HOWEVER, THERE IS A NOTICABLE STOP/GO depending on my viewpoint out of the cockpit but only SOMETIMES. I think it may be ActiveSky through the WideServer updating. But looking straight ahead it is ok. I even noticed FPS over 100 occasionally.Ok now to install Ultimate Traffic.Carmine http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/Images/wave.gif
