May 13, 201313 yr What do you guys think? Should I upgrade to Ivy Bridge now, or wait for the upcoming Ivy Bridge E refresh in a few months? Someone on the EVGA boards had suggested I wait for Ivy Bridge E. I'm assuming that's going to still be socket 1155. I'm currently running an i7-860 and FSX is doing ok with it but I'd really like some more CPU power for it. My i7-860 runs at 2.8ghz stock and I've had it on a mild OC using speedstep to 3.3ghz which will bump to 3.9 if the chip only goes down to 1 core. Typically I see it around 3.3-3.5ghz while FSX is running. I was thinking of doing the i5-3570K. I know I'm running an i7 right now with HT, but I don't know that I do enough stuff to really make use of the HT on the i7-3770K (although maybe the stock 3.9ghz vs. 3.8 on the 3570 is worth it?). I'm working on OC my i7-860 to around 3.8 but I know a newer generation is still going to be much faster at the same clocks due to the performance increase in each generation and I'm already 2 generations behind now. May 14, 201313 yr
ever thought about going AMD I got fx-8350 with 8 cores running at 4.6ghz with an h60 cooling it and it stays in the mid 50s under full load I'm going to upgrade to the H100 and go for 5 ghz. The reason I say this is you can get a fx-8350 for $179 vs $300+ for intel stuff.
ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
May 14, 201313 yr I am waiting to see how the 4770K pans out. If its not that hot I still win just because once it is released, 3770K and all the accoutrements will be available used in abundance. Harvest time
