2 die in Duxford crash

Featured Replies

Very sad news.Lieutenant Commander Bill Murton, 45, and Neil Rix, 29, were crewing the Fairey Firefly vintage naval aircraft when it came down near the Duxford airfield in Cambridgeshire, on the eastern side of the M11 at about 1430 BST today. Both guys lost their lives. http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/firefly.gifSteve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.jpg][/divTHERE'S A BIG WAVE COMING!Whats New!http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/fly2theuk/whatsnew.htmMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm

G'day Steve,What a tragedy that two people should die this way. Was this during an airshow? of some sort or were they just off test flying or what?Do you have any additional info?.Unfortunately aviators of today flying these restored WW II aircraft don't have the luxury (safety factor) of parachutes that the aviators of yesteryear had.We have a problem in Australia where MIG 15's have been restored but WITHOUT ejection seats. One crashed and the pilot was killed.A very sad storyRoger @YSSY

Hi Roger.Yes this was during the Duxford Airshow, a very popular show in the UK. Last year a pilot was killed when the plane hit the motorway you can see in one of the pictures I posted. My friend a quite few years back was filming a guy in his plane, at a show coming in low over the runway, which he hit, the plane exploded. Sadly his wife was in the tower at the time. Its horrific watch his video even now many years on.Steve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.jpg][/divTHERE'S A BIG WAVE COMING!Whats New!http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/fly2theuk/whatsnew.htmMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm

G'day Steve,Unfortunately air shows tend to produce many aircraft crashes, the vast majority of them pilot error. I am not pre judging this particular accident, the reason is really immaterial to my point, but every time an accident happens at an airshow and people lose their lives I fear that we are moving inevitably towards the day when a beauracrat somewhere will call for the banning of airshows.Any way thanks for the info. Just a terrible tragedy. To keep this post honest, just how do you get the slide show effect with your pictures??Cheers,Roger @YSSY

I use a program called Ulead gif animator :-)Its very easy to use if you just use the inbuilt wizard that takes you through it step by step. This has been freeware on many computer magazine, thats why I have it :-lol Steve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.jpg][/divTHERE'S A BIG WAVE COMING!Whats New!http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/fly2theuk/whatsnew.htmMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm

According to the site for this animator, it is not freeware:http://www.ulead.com/ga/runme.htm Probably was freeware at one time and they do have several freeware packages out but not this one.As to the accident, they were trying to pull out of a loop when they bellied it into the ground. Really tragic. Airshows have a way of making the worst happen. {8^<} Fortunately for the audience it happened a good distance away.
