October 13, 200421 yr Hello,The new FS2004 update has taught me a lesson about my sims. The wear and tear on hardware from CD startups had to be balanced against the legality of the CD protection systems. When I made the update to FS2004 (9.1) the NOCD startup that I used no longer worked correctly.Since I own legal versions of all of my sims that need CD's to start, I tried two solutions - Alcohol 120 and Game Jackal. Both of these solutions require that I have a valid CD to start the game in order to get the system to work. Each has it benifits,1. The Alcohol lets me produce a "copy" of the CD that is then loaded into a Virtual CDROM drive. When the Sim starts up, it checks the Virtual drive and loads the same as when the CD was there. The downside is that the virtual drive taks up a lot of Harddrive (a CD;s worth).2. The Game Jackal is different - it runs a PROFILE that it builds the first time that you run the sim with the real CD. I don't have a clue as to how it does what it does but the next time you start the game, using the Game Jackal profile, the CD is not needed anymore.I have settled on the Game Jackal solution for now.I just thought that my experience would be instructive to anyone looking at similar solutions. This Forum has been of great help to me with my sim problems and solutions - thanks to all for your help. Ron Sagel
