Weird issue with one aircraft

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a very odd issue with just one of my payware aircraft, which manifests itself in two forms: it won't start-up on first load in Free Flight, but will after being re-loaded inside the FSX engine.

Then, the included standard FSX GPS will cease to function a little ways into the flight, again, fixed by reloading the aircraft.

I truly believe this to be some sort of interaction on my system.

I start FSX up with the default Cessna 172 with Master Avionics, battery, alternator switches set to off, mixture set to full lean/cutoff (I take the default Cessna, configure it this way, have saved it as default flight at default Midway/Chicago scenery; I have ORBX North America scenery enabled, along with REX, that's it for environmentals).

Two questions: can anyone describe in a bit more informed, technical detail than usual what reloading the aircraft resets, and how? And then, is there anything in the above scenario that stands out to you as a likely cause of the problem?

Only happens with this one plane. I won't name it to save any fingerpointing, but suffice to say I have tried a complete reinstall of it, and had done a full repair install of FSX/Acceleration (both of them) for other reasons (mistook a system electrical failure for software corruption.... loose cable.... no, not in my head....), and no fixes from either of those.

Thanks for reading!

This would lead me to suspect you're somehow running (the GPS at least) on battery power and seeing the battery run dead in the simulation. If you have fsuipc registered, tell it to extend the battery life indefinately, and see if that fixes the GPS issue (it could also be cause for the other problems, but I doubt it)

Hi NikkiA,

Thanks for the quick suggestion! Hmm, I'll have to look into that a little more. Wish I knew how the battery drain code worked; am not (yet) running FSUIPC.

I had thought maybe hitting my Master Avionics On button on my joystick might have an effect, as it does on my Nemeth helicopters (which have no Master Avionics On switch, same is true of this troubling aircraft). But in this case, it didn't help.
