I am having the same problem but it is not the control panel screen size.  I have always had it at the same size for 2 years.

I went into Windows Control Panel/Appearance and personalization/Display/Make text or screen larger or smaller/.    I had mine set at medium and changed to small.   I went into FSX and the PMDG 747 cockpit is now back to normal.   I have Windows 7.    About two months ago when I logged on, my screen size was changed automatically (most likely by Windows 7 automatic updates) it looked like it set from a 12 pitch to a 10 pitch (which makes the letters look spread out.)   I had to try and fix my font sizes because It did not look right.  I picked medium.  But apparently since it messed up my 747 cockpit, I picked small (default) and it seems to work.  My display engine indicators no longer overlap.  Funny thing, this only effected PMDG.  Non of my other add on aircraft like QW 757 were effected with cockpit errors because of the screen sizes.  The only drawback with small is that it makes font sizes small in Windows, but fortunately  it does not effect FSX screen and cockpit sizes.
