FS Captain question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I downloaded the demo of FS Captain and used the configurator to add the FMC panel to the Carenado C208B (for testing).

I set myself up with one of the default airlines but the demo flight I set up (from KOLM), only listed the default C208B for flight (and other default aircraft).........  I couldn't find any way of selecting the Carenado C208B instead, for my first flight.

Can anyone give a pointer on this?

Hello there,

Are you referring to the Flight Dispatch in the FS Captain administrator? There is a quick and dirty solution: just start FSX, go to one ofthe demo airports, open the FSC Gauge and press login. Two things might happen now: either you see various options such as DEST (enter a destination airport, similar to the dispatch in the admin) or FS Captain will point out that there was no .cfg file for this aircraft (your cessna) and that it created a new one. If the latter happened you can exit FSX again, go the admin and try again to find your cessna in the Flight Dispatch. You may also edit the aircraft data in the admin, as the default file FS Captain produces does not always contain correct values.

Hope it helps to get you started,

Cheers

Yeah, you have to add them yourself. It can be a pain to be honest. I still haven't figured it out completely, i'm also a new user.

First load the ACARS-installer and then select your addon plane and install the thingy, but you already did that.
Then you have to check in your aircraft.cfg (so in the map Microsoft Flight Simjulator X\Simobjects\airplanes\<your-plane-addon-map>\aircraft.cfg) what the atc_model entry is under the tab [General].

Start the FS Captain app, and under the Tab Aircraft Characteristics you have to add a new plane. Now make sure that under Type you enter the same name as the atc_model entry. This is case sensistive as I have noticed today..... sigh.

I THINK that is it, but again, i'm not sure. I had some troubles with the Duke Turbine, since it shares the same modelname with the normal Duke.

Now start FSX in that plane. open the FS Captain window (CTRL SHIFT 6) and select ACARS, that it will sent the aircraft performance back to FS Captain. This is default stuff, and you might want to change it.

Edit: Ah, some one beat me to it :P

Thanks for the help guys .... yes ity was indeed within the Administrator software.    Despite having added the ACARS gauge to many add-on aircraft, I just could not seem to be able to select anything other than default aircraft, within the Flight Dispatch of the Admin GUI.

I'll try what you said about the CFG ......... have to say, it seems a heck of a clunky way of doing things ...... surely the vast majority of people are going to want to use FSCaptain with add-on aircraft, rather than the defaults.

Thanks again for the help - I'll take another look .

Ok, so although I've added the gauge to the Carenado C208, it just will not display in FSX.... The pop up menu in FSX shows the gauge "FCDU", but when I press the CTRL+SHIFT+6 command, the gauge is just a black square...

All of the options in the "FSCaptain" menu of FSX are doing nothing ....... for example, pressing "View Dispatch" brings a pop up that says "No final dispatch was created".

I am at Olympia (KOLM) which understand is one of the demo airports ? ......... it's a bit crazy that the documentation states "in the demo you can only fly from some specific airports in the PNW region", but nowhere actually lists what those airports are!

I am trying to follow the tutorial, but this demo has been a complete non-starter for me ....... I hear people rave about FSCaptain but this experience has been with a clunky, unintuitive piece of software, spread across far too many GUIs and with far too much manual set-up involved, just to (try to) get it working with add-on aircraft.

I'm pleased they offered a demo - so that I did not waste money is determining that this one definitely isn't for me.

Yea, i'm totally with you on the 'not so intuitive' part :P

But if it works, it is a nice addon. It suggests routes when you select the amount of minutes you want to be flying. With this addon you will fly to airports and airstrips you never knew existed. A great way to explore ORBX-regions. You can also give the dep and arr airports if you want, it will generate a job/flight for you. Very dynamic little program.

But first, getting actually started.... Frustration levels were rising here too this morning, the FCDU didn't come up either when trying to add the Lancair Legacy.........

Although I am sure you just have to get it first, then add your planes and be done with that part. Also make sure that in your aircraft.cfg there is an entry at the ATC_id line. This is under every model/paint [Tab] in the .cfg. It can't be blank, you can put any callsign in there.

I'll try adding another airplane tonight or tomorrow, and then post a simple guide. That is if I don't kill myself out of frustration first, lol.

Check your panel.cfg according to this guide: http://fscaptain.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=support&action=display&thread=1011

Everything has to be exactly as described.

When FSC says there is no dispatch it actually means that you havent committec to a flight via the Flight Dispatch in the Administrator. Also, the manual is quite extensive, a recommended read. ;-)

You may also send your panel.cfg and I will check it.
