Black Scenery Textures & PMDG NGX

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Sometimes when I fly the ngx, about 20-60 minutes into the flight, ground textures will begin turning black. I am using default textures globally. As large squares become black, switching the view would fix the issue for a few seconds before once again the scenery textures go black. At this point, the aircraft will be a skeleton and will not load. Now the entire set of textures globally will go haywire and random brown textures will surround my aircraft until I cant see anything anymore.

I use no tweaks on my .cfg since they have never helped me!

The 3 things that might be contributing to it:

1. My video card is only 256MB.

2. My RAM is only 2GB.

3. Could i have actual corrupt scenery or is it one of those 2 issues?

Regards, Jeremy Chesney

I am glad you asked this question, since I have 12 gig of RAM and a pretty high end system, and this occurs to me often. It will be interesting to learn what might be the cause/cure.

256MB of video RAM and 2GB of RAM - there's your problem I'm betting. I can't believe the sim even runs on that honestly. The NGX's minimum requirement is a 512MB card.

Time to get a new system - what you're running on is positively ancient.

Highly doubt it's the exact same issue as what Jeremy has. What he's describing sounds like running out of texture memory.

I run autogen on dense so i plan to trim that down then. People always are surprised that fs works so well on my computer, it runs amazingly too, better than what ive seen with many others. 20-30 fps on the ground with the ngx, and locked at 30 in the sky.

I also have something i remember from some of my flights. I would hear the sound of the dreaded OOM, the windows tone?, but the oom would never actually take place. This happened on occassions separate from my texture blackening issue, but i was Wondering why that was happening.

Is there anything else i should apply that will help my vram be more efficient and use less?

Regards, Jeremy Chesney
