Strange, Inaccurate Temperature

Featured Replies

Hi,

I usually use the real weather - update every 15 minutes option in FSX. I have never had any problems before and the temperature is usually pretty close to the real. I just downloaded the latest weather at my local airport KAVP, and the FSX weather report shows a temp of 32 deg F.  It is July 2 and the actual real temp is 76. I tried a few more times and it keeps coming up 32. A little later it was 44. I double checked and July and summer are correct in FSX. Any ideas why it won't download the correct temperature?  Thanks.  Tom

Same problem at CYYC....it's been raining for two weeks and 34f.. Even though yesterday was a clear sky and 92f.

Its just probably just another lack of support ( no support) issue from MS.

MS weather has been down for over a month now.

Thanks for the help, guys. I checked out FSRealWX Lite and it shows two files. The top one says its for FS 2002. Is the lower one the one for FSX?  Tom

Both downloads are for FS2002 to FSX.   Version v1.07 provides some updates to the earlier V1.06.   I am using v1.07 and it works well.   Keep in mind that Metar and other downloads will only be applied when FSX is running.   Also, keep FSRealWX window open behind FSX.   I've found that if I don't, then it sometimes stops working.   You can use FSUIPC or Simconnect.

Chris,

I downloaded FSReal and it seemed to install OK but I can't get it to work. I have FSX running and when I open the program (ver1.07) and try to download weather, it gives me the old "not responding" message and I have to quit. The help file is not too helpful. It just gives the brief basics. Any ideas??   Thanks,  Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm no expert on FSRealWX, but have a few thoughts for you to check on:

1.  Your downloaded program was probably installed in Program Files (x86).  Open that Folder and make sure you see 9 files.   If a file is missing, then that could be a possible cause.  Try a re-download of the program (maybe the previous version).

2.  Minimize the folder and open FSRealWX (without starting FSX).  What is the comment at the bottom?  Should be 'not connected' and your version number.

3.  Open your FSRealWX folder and open fsrealwx (text document).   What are the entries?   Should have 3 entries.

4.  Close that text document.   Go back to your FSRealWX and click Start.   Is there an initial notation of 'connecting to weather server', then a limited download only of Metar and Synop?   You will also see another notation 'waiting for FS' (because FSX is not running at this point).

5.  Open fsrealwx (text document) and see whether more info is added to it.   I get another 4 entries added (could be more or less depending how much data is to be downloaded).   Once you start FSX, then more data will be sent to FSX and the comment in FSRealWX will change to 'connected to FS'.

Why I ask the above, is to see where your program is failing.  You say, that you see a 'not responding' message at Start Download.   I assume that at my point 4, you are getting that message.   If all your files for FSReaWX are all there and intact, then the only other thing I can think of is your connection to the weather server or something blocking that connection, via anti-virus or required permission needed.   Then try temporarily stopping the a/v and see if a connection can be made.

Sorry that I can't be of more help.  You could try their forums at

Chris,

I followed your instructions and sure enough, I got as far as a successful Metar strip once I entered my local airport KAVP in the box. However when I open FSX, it doesn't seem to be sending the data to FSX. I clicked on the airport icon on the World/Map view and it still shows 32deg F. rather than about 75. I clicked on each of the other buttons next to the start button but nothing changed in FSX. (the progress strip to the right shows all green and stays green.) It also says "success" next to the identifier box but at the bottom of the window it still says "not connected".  Just wondering, but do I have to purchase FSUIPC?   Thanks again for all your help.   Tom

Tom, to answer your questions:

1.   The free version of FSUIPC will work also.   Actually, I just use Simconnect.

2.   There's no need to enter your airport in the box.  The order I generally follow (and this is only my preference), is to start FSX, set it up with aircraft, flight plan, etc and click Fly Now.   Then I pause and minimize FSX and start FSRealWx and download.   Everything that is downloaded, transfers across to FSX and specifically for your airport and according to your flight plan.   The clue that things are working properly, is when you see the long list of weather stations flashing at the top of FSX as they are incorporated and the periodical data flashing at the top while you're flying.

3.   I'm unsure about the data in World/Map - whether that gets altered because of the FSRealWx data.   I probably wouldn't bank on it.   The things you need to see are:  In FSRealWx:  connection made, download completed, and data sent to FSX ,  and, in FSX:  the rapid transfer of the weather station data to FSX.   If these occur, then your weather will be accurate and updated along your flight route.

If you still have problems, or I need to send you my Options setup, just PM me, as this post is probably getting tedious for others!
