October 24, 200421 yr Ok Avsimmers! I *really* need some heavy-jet advice from you all! :)Im fighting two problems & one question here. I fly the Posky 747-436 (British Airways)[1.]During the climb to cruising altitude the autothrottle does a big dance :( Say for example you set the target speed in the autopilot panel at Mach 0.60. The autothrottle increases power, the speed builds till it hits Mach 0.60...and then the throttle retards way back...so the speed decays down to Mach 0.55 or so....and then the throttle bangs up again to make up for it.....and so this back & forth throttle dance goes on and on. Sounds like a motorbike engine revving. Could someone help?[2.]I set up the 747 on the ILS approach with the right engine & flap settings, with the ILS captured perfectly. I then saved the flight as "747 ILS Approach" so I could go back and practice landing it many times over.Problem is when I select my saved flight and load it: the plane stalls immediately & falls out of the sky like a brick with engines screaming at full power. Theres no escape, it just drops like a grand piano. I dont understand why this is since I saved the flight with the *correct* ILS apprach settings as mentioned above. Its like FS2004 forgets the plane is flying or something :([3.]I know airliners cruise with a nose-up attitude. Is 8 to 8.5 degrees correct? Thats what my Posky 747's attitude is in the cruise.Any help from you "heavy" pilots on here would be greatly appreciated :)Thank you!
October 24, 200421 yr One thing you can certainly try that won't hurt is to delete the STATE.CFG file (if you haven't done so already). Sounds like a a malfunction of the application as I fly the 747-400 series by POSKY and no such problems. However, I have a few questions to clarify things:(1) Have you ever flown a 747-400 by POSKY successfully with these autothrottle settings?(2) If yes, have you changed anything since then, like your panle perhaps?(3) If you fly the default 747-400, do you have the same problems?John I love flying my "iddy biddy Jumbo" CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, socket 775/3GHz/1333MHz bus/6MB cache MOBO: Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n/Intel X38 chipset RAM: 4GB Kingston HyperX 1333MHz. rated 7-7-7-20, matched pair (2 x 2GB) GRAPHICS: Sapphire Radeon 5770HD 1GB (w/ fan) MONITOR: Samsung 24", 2494HM LCD wide-screen 1920x1080 SOUND: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS HARD DRIVES: 1xWestern Digital WD1600JD SATA 160GB (primary/Windows XP and system boot drive) 1xWestern Digital WD3200AAJS SATA2 320GB (secondary/Flight Simulator 2004 running off WinXP Pro 32-bit, games video editing drive) 1xWestern Digital 500GB Black series SATA2 (Windows 7 64-bit: FSX is running off Win7; Windows XP Professional 32-bit) CASE: Antec Sonata III 500W OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for FSX; Windows XP Pro 32-bit for other things.

October 24, 200421 yr Author Start with item 3. The normal pitch up during cruise is from 2 degrees to 3 degrees. 8 degrees is seriously wrong and dangerous. Check your Mach cruise speed. Should be no less than .82 and preferably from 0.84 to 0.86 (Groundspeed of about 500 knots or 570 mph approx at FL350).Item 1. Speed to altitude. Above 10,000, typical climb speed to initial cruise (around FL300 to FL330, depending on weight) would be IAS 300 (many airlines use this) and generally not above IAS 330. Changover to Mach speed for reference at about FL250-260.Regarding speed decay, speed "dance", some joysticks or throttles conflict with the sim. FSUIPC may be able to assist you with this (or other posters here). Item 2. Not heard of this specific scenario before but may also be joystick related. On ILS, try this: set yourself 15 nm from touchdown at 520 thousand pounds total weight, 3000' AGL, IAS 180, flaps 10, gear up, Nav 1 tuned to ILS arrival runway. This gives you 5 nm to settle down and get things ready for GS interception. Intercept the ILS at IAS 165 and flaps 20 and let down gear. Final approach speed should be around IAS 150 with flaps 30 or IAS 145 with flaps 25. I found previously that the POSKY 744 tended to fly rather high pitch up (up to 5 degrees) on approach, so you may need to adjust your cockpit view. Current models may have been changed however and may fly with better pitch (should be 1 to 2.5 degrees above horizon when in landing profile). Try it and post results.I did find previously that with some POSKY a/c, esp. the 747 models, there was throttle surge on ILS approach. Never figured out how or why. It just happened and could not be fixed. But your falling out of sky like grand piano (a vivid simile!) is wild stuff. Do you observe what is lighted up on your AP panel when this happens? I fly MelJet 747-400s and have edited the cfg files heavily so that they fly on the numbers, according to Boeing book. Hope this helps somewhat. Post your results.Cheers!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
October 24, 200421 yr Thanx very much Byrna & JSACKS for taking the trouble to help me sort out this naughty Posky jumboYour pointers and suggestions are most interesting and I shall try them all out and get back to you (deleting the state.cfg & checking out the same approach on the default 747). And yes the cruising attitude is excessive isnt it! I was cruising at mach 0.85 and I knew something was wrong the first time I took the Posky 747 up. I've flown a lot commercially and I dont recall the horizon at such an abnormal tilt in the cruise! Is there a line I can change in a .cfg file somewhere to tell the airplane to dip its snout a little when its tootling away at FL390?I got a funny feeling the default 747 will work just fine which will make me unhappy because it looks horrible compared to the ultra-realistic Posky one. I know from the cockpit it doesnt make a difference but I like looking back at the pretty Rolls Royce engines in the Posky 747..not to mention its excellent exterior.Right...time to get testing..will report back to u guys :)Thanx!
October 24, 200421 yr Author You CAN change the pitch angle in cruise within the cfg file, but try flying at the correct weight and speed first of all. Set your gross weight to 650 thousand pounds and slew up to FL350 and 500 knots (M.86) Set the FS9 weather to "Fair", press B to ensure your altimeter is correct, and fly off. Report back on your pitch attitude. October 31, 200421 yr Hello Avsimmers :)Sorry for the delay in replying http://www.nextgenerationrecords.co.uk/boa...con_redface.gifI did all the tests and set up both the stock 747-400 & the Posky 747-400 in identical configurations and the same altitude & cruising speeds. The Posky jumbo *does* cruise with an excessive nose-high attitude. The stock 747 behave normally. The Posky plane has almost 8 degrees nose-up showing on the artificial horizon :(Could you please tell me how to drill into the .CFG file and fix this?Thank you!!!:)
October 31, 200421 yr Author E-mail me your cfg file to [email protected] and let me look it over and try it out. I can tell you how to fix this but 8 deg sounds insane (I've never had such a ludicrous pitch) and I have to see the file first.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.

Expect an email from this address: [email protected] :)I dont have to tell you that Murphys Law states that when you get the file and try it out you will get a normal cruise-attitude! Thanx!
