October 28, 200421 yr Can someone explain how to do a LOC/DME approach? What numbers I have to enter and where do I enter them? It's wierd but but in FS2004 I never done a LOC/DME approach before.
October 28, 200421 yr Basically it is no different from an ILS approach with the exception that you will not have a glideslope. Instead you have to make the descent according to the approach chart. That is what you need your DME for as it will tell you the distance from the VOR/DME whatever is indicated on the approach chart. But you will need an approach chart to read your descent levels from.A lot of these charts are available for free from the internet.Go here for a chart of LOWI:http://www.firwien.at/charts/lowi/locdme_west.pdfYou start your approach at 13000 ft. at KTI. You will have to dial the frequency in your ADF to navigate there. Enter the hold and descent to 11500 ft.. Dial 109.70 in your VOR1. Set the DME to VOR1. Leave the hold with a track of 104. And start your descent at a distance of 20.4 nm to the localizer/DME. That is also the point where you will start to intercept the localizer. Proceed with your descent as you go along and check your altitude according to the DME distance. You are not allowed to go lower than 10500 ft. unless established on the localizer.Hope that helps.Alex
