Strange scenery issue/ updating problem

Featured Replies

I have had XPX running for several months without issue, using the 64-bit version. Today I tried and found that I have water where land should be, and a message that a scenery file is missing (I haven't actually changed any files manually so don't know what would have caused this to happen, other than I did start XPX up today without Disk 1 in the DVD-drive. I get this scenery error with Disk 1 in the drive, BTW.

One of the great things about this sim is the ability to have multiple instances of it on the same PC, so I found the installer file that I downloaded earlier (there was apparently something wrong with the installer on the DVD??), and now have a new instance of the RTM version of XPX. But I am now getting with this new instance a message that XPX cannot find the internet site to check for updates (my internet is working OK on my PC), so I don't have the "Update" on the pull-down menu within XPX to go get the latest version. Is there some way I can force an update- or is there some way I can correct for a bad URL through editing a file that may have been installed for the XPX site to check for updates?

Weird stuff- I will try re-booting the PC and see if that helps either of these 2 issues above- I still have my previous instance installed (the one that has the land scenery missing).

Thanks, Bruce.

PS- I searched for an existing topic under "Update" here but didn't see an answer on any of the 45 pages that the search generated :)

EDIT: Ah.. the magic of a reboot..... my original instance is now working fine, I have land scenery where it should be.... Thanks, Bruce.

Something went wrong during a download. Just check for updates and uncheck the "check for betas" and let it fix itself. Then, you can recheck the beta option and it will work.

I've only had that happen once and the above took care of it.
