October 28, 200421 yr Out of the blue my FS9.1 seems to cut down FPS. In the PSS A332 cockpit-view I used to have at least 20-25 FPS while standing at the gate, now 5-6 only!! I tried everything that crossed my mind. I deleted fs9.cfg and had FS9 to produce a new one. I verified that hardware accellerations are running as well as DX9c. No luck. At last I completely deinstalled FS9 and deleted all remaining files manually. (backed up the whole directory before, though)From the scratch I installed FS9 and started with the default Cessna at Meigs Field. 12 FPS only!! I should have 50-60 instead. I notice for second or less 80-90 FPS indicated, but have an immediate drop to 12 thereafter. I also have a mouse indicator moving a bit sluggish in the cockpit view. I'm puzzled and running out of ideas. Any help is really appreciated!!Sam
October 28, 200421 yr Have you tried scanning for a virus, or some of that adware and other nasty things? First scan with a good virus scanner, next use Sbybot Search and Destroy, and then finally use Adaware, this should pretty well find any problems. There are other programs out there but they work well for me. If none of that helps look to see if you have installed a new program recently that may keep a process running all of the time, hit ctrl, alt, delete and click on the processes tab and see what is running, chances are there are things there that can be shut down, Ken Salters FS Autostart is great fr doing that automatically. Hopefully this will be helpful to you, if not maybe someone else can help you out since I will be going in for surgery tomorrow and will not be around much. Good Luck!Philip OlsonI'm the luckiest man in the world, my girl friend has a yoke and rudder pedals! Eat your hearts out!http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
October 28, 200421 yr Author Also, do you defragment your hard drive regularly? If not you should check that as well. It does sound like spyware or some other process running in the background though. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
October 29, 200421 yr First of all, I hope you will be fine with your surgery, Phil! Good luck!!Thank you very much for your kind support, Phil and Craig! I did exactly what you proposed and removed quite a few cookies, running Spybot and Adaware. I also checked my config with the bechmarktester 3DMARK 05. The result of 1200 pts. seemed quite poor to me, however, I've got the same result on a different harddisk with a complete different software environment. I can't judge so far, if my hardware performance is lacking or if my graphic card doesn't work properly. I will now check if XP's SP2 has an impact.Kind regards,Sam
October 29, 200421 yr I feel your pain. I was getting great FPS before the patch. I then purchased Fly San Francisco because I heard it had great framerates and also installed the patch roughly the same time. Out of the blue I was getting terrible FPS at KSFO? If I added just 1% of AI my FPS would drop to single-digits. I could not explain what happened.I tried all sorts of things, removed all traffic.bgl files and re-inserted one at a time. I then played with clouds,... basically anything that would impact FPS. Upgraded vid card drivers.Ended up haveing to rearranged my PC card slots as I thought my ATI 9700 Pro might be overheating (another issue?). Re-seated everything, rebooted and now I get the best FPS I have ever gotten! At Denver with all sliders maxed, cloud distance max, 100% UT AI, I was seeing mid-teens to 20's at the tarmac! Couldn't believe my eyes but I don't know what fixed it. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe after just removing enough files and rebooting did something but I never re-installed FS2004 or the patch.Strange eh? Again... I know your frustration.
October 29, 200421 yr Yeah on my system I have 1 AGP and 4 PCI slots. I have the vid card in AGP (as it is an AGP card :)) then I put the sound card in the 2nd lowest PCI slot, and the network card in the lowest. That way I have a 1 port space between each card, and it allows them to cool down much better than when I had them all grouped together...
October 30, 200421 yr After going thru some more de- and installations of drivers, checking if all coolers are operating normally, temperatures in the case, rebooting the PC a couple of times the frames came back!!!!!!!!!!I am deeply grateful and would like to thank you guys very much for your very kind support!!!!Have a great weekend!Sam
October 30, 200421 yr I might also suggest opening your case again and checking for any large amounts of dust. They love to hold heat, and can damage or slow down your system..
October 30, 200421 yr Right! Good idea! I'd might even use a vacuum cleaner for that, what do you think? Could I damage anything or would I I better use a damp cloth?Thank you!Sam
