August 19, 201312 yr Are you guys aware of the bug where we tell the FO the Destination airport and it ends up populating the "Alternate" window in the GUI? When asking him for something like the ILS freq, he has no clue what we are doing or where we are going.
August 20, 201312 yr Commercial Member I see what you mean. However, it's more like a misunderstood feature than anything else. Ideally, should load your flight plan within FSX, P3D or FS9. FO would then know the departure and arrival airports. When you tell FO "we are going to Kilo Juliett Foxtrot Kilo" he will assume you want to divert to KJFK. To request ILS frequency... "what is the ILS frequency for runway zero four left" (assuming zero four left exists at that airport) If FO doesn't know the destination airport (as a result of not loading a flight plan or simply because you're on a VFR flight) he would prompt for the airport ICAO ID. You then just spell the NATO alphabet for the airport. There are occasions where FO can't find the ILS frequency. Is this one of default FSX airports or add-on specific scenery. And do the FSX runways match with the airport in third party scenery add-on? You have a point regarding the UI update though. Should update both. Gerald R https://www.multicrewxp.com
August 21, 201312 yr Author I haven't had much success with him tuning the ils freqs, even though I'm basically doing as you say. I'll tell him the landing runway, and he'll acknowledge. Then I'll tell him to tune the ils freq. He'll ask me for the airport, even though I told him earlier that the destination was KXYZ. So he'll ask, and I'll tell him again. He'll read back Kilo Xray Yankee Zulu so I know he understood where we're talking about, but then he'll fumble around and say something like Gosh I don't know. To answer your question, I'm not using any 3rd party runways, just FSX stock. I'll go back and try some more things when I fly next, but my initial attempts have not been succesful. I haven't been using FSX flight plans in any of the flights I've flown in years, because I'm typically using a plane that has it's own Navigraph database to go along with it's FMC, or in the case of GA, almost all of them have Reality XP stuff fitted. So the FO wouldn't be able to know from a flight plan...I'm relying solely on the ability to inform him in real time what the destination and landing runway is. It would be nice if I could get this to work correctly, but as with most things, only a matter of convenience, since I can either have him tune the radio explicitly, or else just tune them myself. I must say that MCE is making me quite lazy!
August 21, 201312 yr Commercial Member I told him earlier that the destination was KXYZ Unless it's a typo, I couldn't position aircraft at KXYZ using the FSX Go To Airport Dialog Window. FO wouldn't have the data for that airport. Gerald R https://www.multicrewxp.com

When I used "KXYZ" I thought it would be clear I was just making that up as a hypothetical stand-in for any airport, not a literal. I know that there is no such airport as KXYZ. Kind of like talking about Joe Sixpack when you are referring to just the average guy, and no one in particular. Sorry for the confusion. I didn't actually tell him to tune Kilo Xray Yankee Zulu!!! For concrete examples, try asking him to tune the ils freqs at KSEA or KPAE. My default airport is KSEA, out of habit since it's the traditional FS9 location, so I'm pretty sure I tried it unsucsessfully at the airports around that area.
