August 3, 200322 yr DC Forums+ 1.2 was struggling last week as everyone painfully saw. It was load related. As we climbed to and through 10,000 logins a day, the system bogged down to the point where it was almost useless. Matt came up with an idea that we implemented yesterday; that is, we moved the forum's web stuff over to another of our servers, and let our dual processor based machine do the SQL database. That seems to have worked for the weekend traffic and has resulted in what appears to be a much faster system. That is a temporary fix because the load on the other machine is now higher than we would like it. We are in contact with the author of DCF+ and we are hoping that we can get him to troubleshoot the base code and fix the problem that consumes 100% of the processors, which is what is bringing the forums to its knees. As for the move of the html functions to the other box, we recognize that this caused some headaches with their cookies and access settings, and we are sorry you had to go through that. It was for the greater good of course, so we are hopeful that you will appreciate the increase in forum responsiveness despite the problems it imposed upon you.Next time we make a move of the forums or substantial changes like the one we did yesterday, we'll announce it in plenty of time for everyone to be forewarned. Thanks for your understanding and patience through this last week!
