November 9, 200421 yr Dear Friends:I love the new active ske 2004.5 version, but for some reason, especially at dawn, the clouds always "flicker" in the distance. They never do this when I am not using active sky. I already tried disabling "Render to Texture" but no change. Any ideas what is causing the problem? Thanks.Chris CatalanoGForce 3/128MG video card.
November 9, 200421 yr Sounds like you are seeing the boundary between low-resolution 2D clouds rendered in the distance and the higher definition local clouds. There is a cloud distance slider that controls the distance 2D is drawn.AS2004 draws more variety of clouds and sometimes more layers than the default weather, so you may not have noticed this effect prior to installing AS2004.Bruce
November 9, 200421 yr Author Yes - even before ActiveSky I had this problem when combining 2D and 3D clouds. The outer edge of the clouds would flicker in and out.Try going to 100% on the 3D clouds to see if that helps your flickering. If you haven't yet, you may want to search for some of the high-performance cloud textures. They take the *HUGE* default MS clouds and cut their file size down significantly - which greatly increases performance of the sim in clouds. -Greg
