Addon Scenery folder and adding new scenery

Featured Replies

In my FS2004 settings for scenery, I have the following:Addon Scenery......MichiganMackinac Island......TetonsSo, the Addon Scenery folder I think has always been listed (it'spart of the default). When I add new scenery, such as Michiganabove, do I need to add it separately (as I've done) so thatit's sub-folders for scenery/texture are available during thesimulation?Or, does the existence of the Addon Scenery in the listsufficient to recognize all sub-folder sceneries?I think I need to add each individual scenery as a separate entry(which is what I've done), but I don't want to slow the system by somehow duplicating the entry.JerryG

You need to add each addon seperately to the scenery library.But...............If I were you I would make a completely seperate folder outside of FS - best on another drive/partition if you have one and keep and run all addon scenery from there. It does make life much easier in the event of having to reinstall FS and also if scenery problems occur after adding something (EG:10 mile high mountains etc).my opinion - others will(I'm sure) disagreeDave

Hi Jerry,You're absolutely right, you need to add a separate entry for each scenery you have if you wish to keep them separate in your file structure. However, if you want to add sceneries and don't mind mixing them together you can just install them into the Addon Scenery folder (put bgls in the Addon Scenery/scenery folder, textures in the corresponding texture folder). If you want to add sceneries in the future without having to make separate scenery entries, that's one way to go. The only downside is that it's a little harder to remove specific scenery or disable it if you want to for some reason later. One workaround I've used to evaluate sceneries before committing is to have a folder called "test" in my FS Addon Scenery folder that's registered in the scenery library. I unzip the scenery I'm evaluating to that directory and launch FS. If I like what I see, I go ahead and make a separate entry for that scenery in the library and move it there. If not, I just delete it and move on. It saves a few mintes of starting and restarting FS, anway.

Thanks to you both for your insight and answers!JerryG

Could you please explain more fully the file structure req for extra scenery -do i create sub folders in scenery & textures(which are the existing folders) and name the subs(what do I call them) - are these then auto recognised by the scenery system.I have installed Eahm scenery direct into scenery/textures -work ok -but would now like to add some finnish scenery. Many thanksBernie Lonnenhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
