Step climb and max flight level

Featured Replies

I was in a flight today from LEMD to KBOS at FL360. I had step size set to 4000 feet (I think this is realistic?). Anyway, the FMC showed me a step climb point and as soon as I reached it I turned the altitide up to FL400 and thn got an FMC message saying "MAX ALT FL392". Now why would the FMC give me a step climb point when my max flight level doesn't even allow for that? Is his the way it's supposed to be?

Had exactly the same thing happening to me today ... was cruising on a westbound NAT on FL360 and after returning to the cockpit after my rest :P  the FMC progress page showed me step climb to FL400 step NOW, but the max FL calculated and shown in the FMC was FL398

Ditto. Had the same thing as well. It counted down the distance to step climb but when I entered in the new altitude it told me it was higher than max altitude b

Ok I'm guessing this is a bug then.

I have encountered another bug as well. I had winds set at the Forecast page and when I changed one of the winds (because I had made a typo) the VNAV deviation indicator suddenly showed me as being 9000 ft high while in fact I was not.
