HELP! Messed up a manual install

Featured Replies

I installed AICarrier addon using the .exe That came with it.

it worked just right.

I also manually installed FSX Nimitz Aircraft Carrier v2

which involved placing the downloaded Effect, Simobjects, and Sounds folder to the FSX folder

and placing another item in the AICarrier Addon directory.

I copied the item intended for the AICarriers directory and pasted it in the appropriate folder (this is outside FSX)

Then using Ctrl Alt I selected the 3 folders from the download and copy and paste into the FSX directory.

Got the usual "this folder already exist, do you want to merge?" and merged all three folders.

I immediately noticed that I had also inadvertently copied the item for the AICarriers addon to the FSX folder too!

I deleted it but somehow something went wrong.

I started FSX and during the Startup screen go this:

Aircraftinitializationfailure.png

WHHHHHAAAATTT!!!!

Anyway I clicked Close

and the free flight window came up with the screen where the aircraft usually appears black!

I started the flight anyway and it loaded but was just a static picture of the landscape from a fixed position in the Air where the aircraft would normally be.

I exited back to the start screen and loaded another aircraft and it loaded properly but it was in a cold and dark state.

Exited flight sim and restarted the computer, Started FSX again: same thing!

I noticed in the select an Aircraft several of my Aircraft where missing: haven't inventoried them all but I will.

With the "show all variants" without  a check mark there are 80 planes in the menu and in simobjects/airplanes there are 96 folders.

I can see some the folder for the missing planes are in that folder.

I look again in the FSX folder looking for what I did wrong and discovered that somehow I had deleted the all of the contents of the effects folder except the new content

that I had just added.

However. I looked in the recycle bin and there was the effect folder and the other item that I placed in the FSX directory that I had deleted.

This effects folder had everything in it including the content I had just added.

I returned it to the FSX folder But the same issue persist.

As far as I can tell all of the missing aircraft Air in the Airplane folder.

Is there a way that I can attempt to fix this without a reinstall?

Please help

This indeed sounds like a mixup. Your starting message seems to indicate that FSX wants to load the default flight but can't find the aircraft which was saved. The default red trike.

Well, you could install FSX on another system and compare the folders. There are free tools for that and you may just focus on the SimObjects\Airplanes folder, which seems to be the one with the heaviest damage.

Use what your folder view offers. Means folder counts, data counts and sorting by date. You can pick every missing default aircraft that way while payware would cause other problems.

If just one folder got mixed up, you should be able to tell which one and, if default aircraft are affect, can repair the stuff by copy and paste method. If the damage exceeds the scope of default aircraft, textures and effects, I'm afraid I can't tell how to properly fix that without any kind of backup.

Maybe some others are more creative in that regard. Good luck.

Thanks, Can anyone lookup the name of the Air Creation Trike Folder in FSX/SimObject/Airplanes for me.

I wan to see it the folder is missing.

That's SimObjects\Airplanes\Aircreation_582SL.

I forgot to add that you could run the repair option from the FSX disks, but I'd be careful with that one since it resets a lot more than just the aircraft folder.

That's SimObjects\Airplanes\Aircreation_582SL.

I am working on restoring the missing default Aircraft. It appears that in alphabetical order from Airbus_A321 to Beech_King_Air_350 where deleted from the Airplanes folder along with some addon aircraft. I am hopeful that I can fix this! Took you advise and installed FSXA on my office PC and Made copies of the Effects, Sound and SimObjects folder. Haven't lauched FSX yet after replacing the Missing Airpanes. Hope my optimistic outlook is not premature! There are a couple of other funny glitches in the sim after this screw-up  like aircraft loading cold and dark but they do start up. Anyway I will try to correct one at a time. Perhaps I got lucky this time. Once I fix it I will copy the Whole the FSX drive to my dead storage Drive.

Thanks gain for the help!

Now that I have managed to Fix this; what is the be way to Back up the entire FSX Drive?
