Create a default flight with vis set to 30 miles in your weather settings. That should give the most realistic haze effect possible. I'm afraid that anytime you hack a fs9.cfg value controlled in display settings, when you access display settings again for any reason, the hacked values get reset. Luckily for me I find setting a 30 mile vis in weather settings more realistic.-John

The option is reset every time you enter the FS9 display options and then click OK.
