What is ENB?  I have exactly the same problem.

Hi Wilson:

ENBSeries. It's a little applet designed to make FSX prettier - adds shadows and highlights, etc.., but only works in DX9. It will stop DX10 from loading. The files to remove (from the FSX root folder (where fsx.exe lives)) are :-

d3d10.dll and enbseries.ini.

There is also a d3d9.dll which is part of it, but it should have no effect on DX10, so you can leave it or remove it. I would remove it, so you don't have an "unknown dll" in the fsx root folder two months from now.

All the best,

pj

Thanks, Paul.

I finally have everything working.  Took a while to get a sharp image, and still needs some work.  Not quite as sharp as DX9 in the cockpit.

Also, from external view looking down, the landscape seems to sort of jerk by, rather than a smooth transition.  I am not talking about hesitations.  I am wondering if it has something to do with vsync settings.  I'll work on that.

Appreciate the help,

Wilson

Sounds like Vsync a little, Wilson... (now - if I have to work for you  B)  )...- how would you like to attach your fsx.cfg to your reply (copied and renamed as "Wilson_fsx.txt"), then take a screenshot of your Inspector settings and post them somewhere, and (last!) pop your system setup into your User Profile, so that we can se what we're working with, please. Would you also note the overclock, too, as it's important.

Many Thanks - we'll try and make your holiday a happy one!

All the Best,

Here you go, Paul!

Profile hardware section updated, cfg file attached, and NI Settings attached.

Thanks for your continued support, Paul.

Wilson

No problem, Wilson: Here's a better NI for you. Notice - the 2x SGSS... this is linked to the Negative LOD Bias setting, and so "Clamp" has to become "Allow". This prevents the blurring which happens with SGSS, so if you set yours to "4" - then you also need to change the LOD bias.

Here's a good doc, too, which I found a while back that will also help, along with a small chart (for that purpose) at the bottom.

Back later...

Here you go, Wilson, and here's some rational: feel free to pm me for a chat if you wish. You may want to change or explain some of the radical settings which I've "hacked", and we can do that. There are things available not yet touched on.

Al the Best!

Happy (and prosperous) New Year!

Paul, thanks so much for the help.

I have integrated your suggestions, along with some others from some of your other posts (BufferPools, for example).  Things are now excellent -- very smooth and good framerates, even on this older system.

Happy New Year to you, as well!

Paul,

Thanks so much for your help.

I decided to build a new system, which you can see in "My PC".   I probably will got with an SSD next, but just transferred the old drives over for the time being.  Overclocking to 3900 MHz seems to be quite conservative and the cpu runs cool (~45-50 C) under full load with the Corsair H80i liquid cpu cooler.

Things are running quite well now.   I should have done this a long time ago.

Wilson

Nice motherboard! I've used a few of these - with the same proc, too. The 100i would be better, though, and in the same case. I like overcooling, as it's better not to have to worry at all. You should have no fear of going to 4.4 or 4.5 gig! Excellent machine.

...and that seven-eightyyyyyy.......! What a beast!

I should have done this a long time ago.
  :LMAO:

Congrats, and All the best,

Yes, I looked at the 100i, but wasn't sure that it would fit.  I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning and waiting another week or two for a cooling system to show up.  That's why I opted for the 80i, which has two fans, rather than one, as in the 80.

Instant gratification is too slow for me. ;)

Wilson

Yup - the 100i will fit the HAF 932, Wilson. the 100i has two fans, too.  Compatibility list

here.  B_mark on the 100 here.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update:  Increased cpu to 4,400 GHz.  Very smooth and just running  50--55C in FSX.

I used Prime95 in the maximum heat mode for a torture test, and still don't get readings over 80C after running for about an hour.  Since the TJMax is 105C, I am comfortable with running at this speed all the time.  FSX puts the greatest demand on the CPU of all the software I run.
